The haunted houses have people that often jump out at you. Some of the rooms in the houses have gory/gruesome scenes, such as mad doctors ripping the guts out of a still "living" patient, "dead" animals, etc.
The scary factor all depends on you and how well you handle things that are creepy/scary. Generally, HHN should feel like this to you:

Just keep in mind nothing bad is going to happen to you, its all make believe, no one is really chopping somebody up or anything, its just all good fun. Sorry I just don't understand what there is to be afriad of, to me being afraid is only something that can occur if it is real, or there is real danger. Knowing that it is all for fun, makes it to where I don't get the least bit scared and just marvel at how they do some of the tricks and special effects, but I know everyones different. Just hate to see you miss out on something so cool.

It's funny because one year I worked at a Haunted House. I loved scaring people, but I DO NOT LIKE to be scared.

Universal has been making horror films for nearly a century. they pull out all of their tricks to scare the hell out of you, that's why it's so fun.

If you have a lot of difficulty seeing in the dark (macular degeneration, glaucoma) or extremely bothered by being touched by strangers. I know some people who can't go into ANY haunted house (with the exception of dark rides) because of how they react to being grabbed or touched.
