How safe is Katella Ave?

After staying at Disneyland and hoping to avoid freeway traffic, how feasible is it to take Katella from Anaheim over to the Long Beach area? Are there any safety issues? Bad neighborhoods? More traffic than the freeways?

Katella never had a problem we have stayed many times in the area Are you planning on staying in Long Beach theres so many in expensive places off site.

Nah, just staying near Disneyland, then going over to Long Beach to see the Aquarium of the Pacific, and then heading north to San Francisco.

You are better off just hitting the freeway. Trying to take side streets you would be very frustrated. Best time to get on the freeway is around 9 am

I agree with this. Time wise surface streets rarely save time.


Also while the Anaheim Resort District that ecompasses DLR and the hotels where most of us stay is very safe. Go a few blocks down Katella and you will know the meaning of the saying "Across the tracks". Not that all of LA is rough, but the difference on Katella and other streets is starkly obvious to a country boy like me.

Looks like the consensus is for us to head to the freeway. I've heard horror stories about the traffic on the I-5, so we'll see what we encounter.

I live in L.A.

From Disneyland, I would take

• Harbor Blvd south;
• Garden Grove Fwy (22) west;
• merge onto San Diego Fwy (405) west;
• exit Orange Ave south;
• bear right on Alamitos -- it turns into Shoreline Dr
• aquarium is on the left.
