How "safe" are WDW Resort in room safes?

Only when I tried putting something in it that didn't fit.:lmao:

Sorry, it was out there, I had to say it.

It isn't very big, probably the size of an oversized book. I have never had an issue using it. I always bring my passport for a second form of ID when traveling and I put it in there for the week. Other than that, I don't travel with a great deal of valuables.

When we used to carry travelers checks years ago we would put them in there along with our kids wallets and never had any issues. Now, although none of my jewelry is really valuable that I take with me, I do keep my spare earrings, cash in the safe and I have never had a problem.

It may fit an iPad. I find them safe. Never had one broken into.

I can't say how many resorts have this specifc one but at the Contemporary and Polynesian their rooms have safes which open up with a 4 digit combinaiton that you choose. However the rooms at the Boardwalk Inn still use the safes that are built into the wall of the closest and open up with a key.

We have used it each trip. I put all our extra cash in there and usually my cell phone. Have never had a problem.

I wish they would all change to the code safes. The ones at POP had the keys and I was always afraid I would lose the key. We rent a locker at the parks so I usually left my safe key in the locker.

we used ours for wallet, camera, cell phones, money....never had an issue. and my DH left his wallet in there pretty much our whole trip. :thumbsup2

as for fitting an Ipad, the safe that we had in the GF definately would fit an Ipad. I doubt the ones that are in the wall (w/ the key) would fit it though.

Thank you for all of the great info! :thumbsup2 They do sound "safe". Does anyone know if the AKL uses the key or combination?

I have never had a problem with one. However, they're not like safe deposit boxes (at least the in-wall ones with keys are not). If someone really wanted to get into one, they could probably pry the door off. But they'd have to want to work at it.

While nothing's impossible, that's not typical for hotel burglars to take that kind of time or make that kind of noise, because they don't know when the guest will be returning to the room, or who might hear them hammering on the wall. Hotel burglaries are usually grab and go. The safes serve to keep valuable items from being easily located and picked up, but they could be broken into if the burglar wants to take that kind of time.

AKL uses wall safes which in all of our experiences in a range of deluxe resort are normally very shallow and are accessed using a key.

We just returned and stayed at CBR. Never had a problem, but our safe would not have fit an ipad. We only left cash, Creditcards, wallet, jewelry and ipods in it.

I am quite happy that they are 'safe' as long as you make sure it is locked

Honestly, I think your biggest concern should be what you do with the key, if you are really worried about the security of the safe. Leaving the key in a dresser drawer leaves a certain element of risk. I am sure there are people who do it. It is unlikely that Mousekeeping is going to go through your things, but it is not unheard of for them to finish cleaning and the door doesn't latch properly, leaving the room 'unlocked'

I tend to be pretty forgetful. I put my meds in it and never locked it a couple of times. Nothing disappeared. I also had my wallet in it one time and didn't lock it. Again, all was still there.

So, um, it's pretty safe even if you don't lock it I suppose! :lmao:
