This was always such a huge highlight for my son. He has had 3 or 4 lollipops given to him over the years. Now she cant give her candy out any more. We were picked but not able to have our candy. I talked with her after the show and she said her boss wont let her give them out any longer. I think it is just sad to throw that beautiful art in the trash. So we are sad this is ruined for those who never got one. It was so special. Another huge Disney mistake.:headache:

There has been no confirmation as to a reason, but speculation (there are several threads about this since it first started) is that it is either due to food regulations (she worked bare handed with food being billed as edible in ways that probably didn't meet FDA regs, or the lack of nutritional information, etc.), or that someone complained too many times about how they/their kid waited and waited and never got picked to get one of the free candies (ala the old Jedi Training Academy selection system).

Oh no. That is terrible! :sad1: Both my nieces got pieces from her and it was an all time highlight, they still talk about it they were so thrilled with their animals, they even brought them home with them.

Someone probably pitched a fit because their child didn't get one, so now no one does.

She seemed pretty bummed that she had to stop it. I talked with her for a while after the show. I am thinking people complained.

Some parents need to acknowledge that their kids can't have everything, and the kids need to be taught that lesson by the parents.

You're wise beyond your years, Gibson.

But why did the whiny kid whose parents pushed him to the front at the last second get one, while the patient child who waited and did not make a scene get passed over? That's the problem Disney has been dealing with as of late, it seems...

I think that Florida DOES have glove rules for food service. In MI, where I live, restaurant workers preparing food MUST wear gloves. They can, however, appeal to their health department and ask for permission to not wear gloves. They basically have to submit a written proposal or have something called a HACCP plan in place. It is very rare though. I have yet to meet a restaurateur who has exercised this right. Maybe it is because of this? it wouldn't shock me.

Because some times in life you win and sometimes you lose. Unless the world has changed during some Rip Van Winkle-esque nap I took and didn't notice sometimes life isn't fair. While unfortunate learning that lesson in a Disney park is superior to learning it in a more life-altering moment like with the only survivor in a 10 car pileup is the drunk that caused it.

I understand that. But it also doesn't stop people from complaining to Disney about how their vacation was ruined because their kid didn't get a piece of candy/get picked for JTA/etc.

But also, Disney is not the outside world. Inside Disney you are special.

We watched her last week while we were there. One of our group got picked as well. I have never seen her before and it was AMAZING! We all discussed afterwards that it was weird the kids did not get to keep their candy. We got to take a picture holding it though! Does anyone know if they sell it anywhere?

This is sad to hear...we've been to WDW 3 times now and have always stopped to watched Miyuki and we look forward to seeing her in just a few weeks.

On our last trip, my cousin, her husband and son joined us and it was their first visit to Disney and Epcot was the first park we went to.

Miyuki picked my cousin's kid and because it was only one per family my two boys couldn't get one. This did not ruin our day and my boys were happy just watching her create the wolf their cousin had requested.

This ended up being PERFECT and just one of the many magical moments that my cousin, her husband and son would experience. They instantly knew why we loved Disney so much and why we keep going back! My husband and I were no longer CRAZY or STRANGE in their eyes. :lmao:
So thank you Miyuki and see you in a few weeks.

I am also curious about the reason. If it were just a case of people getting upset about their kids not getting picked, then I would think Disney might just take the opportunity to just charge for them after the show. An opportunity to make more money, and parents can be the highest bidder to make sure their child gets the prize, uh, candy. :lmao:

The first time we saw her, my DD did not get picked, but we were not in the front because we just got there at the last minute. DD looked at the schedule, and purposely stationed herself right in front of the cart 30 minutes before the next show. She stood there patiently for the 30 minutes, no other guests were waiting with us, but we did get some strange looks. I reminded DD that she still may not get picked, she knew and was OK with it. By the time the next demo started, a crowd had built up around the cart. But my DD was picked first, and it really did make her day.

I agree that if this is in response to children getting upset, then it is the parents' fault for building up the kids' expectations that they will get picked. I find that as long as I remind my kids that someone else will probably get chosen for whatever, then they expect that going in, and don't get disappointed, and if they do get picked, it makes it special. When parents act like their kid is entitled, kids pick up on it, and they are crushed when they don't get what they want.

I will say, though, that this is a job for parents. Not for Disney. If enough parents complain, I can totally see them just saying no more candy for anyone. It's easier than trying to change the mindset of thousands of parents on vacation. Disney's job is to make people happy- not teach them the harsh realities of life.

I have to think it is a food regulation situation and liability.

The not getting picked theory would apply to many things at Disney, parade family, the entire Dreams situation, family of the day, Sword in the Stone and many more.

This is definitely disappointing, but don't get too down -- I don't think this should ruin the experience of watching Miyuki for anyone.

I have seen her show many times (usually a couple of times on each trip) -- I have never been picked to receive a lollipop (I'm pretty tall and there are no kids in my party, so I always stand to the back/side so the little ones can see) but that has never changed the experience for me at all. This is ALWAYS a highlight -- she is amazing!!

I know that the kids loved getting their animals, but they still have a great show to enjoy :)

Amen! And as another example that life isn't fair the fun is being sucked out of this great demo in WS. Completely unfair! I also think it ruins the opportunity to experience sharing in the joy of someone else getting picked. I really hope it's health codes. If not, this is just contributing to world narcissism.
