How reliable is Lines/Touring Plans?

I know there's many that like to plan a lot more than I do, but to me maximizing the number of rides I can pack into a day isn't necessarily a primary goal of mine on a trip to Disney. That being said, I do like to at least get an idea of what park would be good to visit on a certain day. A lot can be gleaned just from looking at the EMH schedule. I don't think its necessary to purchase Lines/Touring Plans and I think they go way overboard with the detail of some of the plans and potentially make a day at Disney way too regimented. However, I do look at the "free" crowd calendar a month or two ahead and note the numbers and also look at the free EasyWDW calendars, available anytime.

For the most part, I've found the crowd calendars to be accurate enough, but not always. For example, as another poster mentioned, an extended rain storm on a day the MK is supposed to be busy can really throw off the crowds the following day, no matter what the predicted crowds may be. There's just so many variables affecting crowd levels that no service can be totally accurate, no matter what they may claim.

The number might not be correct but the lines app information is updated throughout the day with real world information so it does correct itself.
