How Quickly Does AKL Fill Up?

We are planning a trip for February, and are wanting to book a standard room at AKL. Our dates are flexible. My question is, will there most likely still be standard rooms available to book next week for this time frame? If it's unlikely, we can make it work to pay our down payment today, but I'd rather wait until next week. Thanks for any advice/info.

I don't think you'll have any problem waiting. With that said, if you will have the deposit within the next 7 days, you can book today and get a 7 day hold. You will officially be booked with a confirmation number, but will have 7 days in which to make the deposit. The deposit must be made by the 7th day or the reservation will automatically cancel, but it will give you a week to pay if you wanted to get it booked today.

I think you'll be fine waiting. I've been stalking AKL availability for this November in hopes I'll be able to get the military discount there once that is released. So far all categories of rooms are available for my dates. I don't see you having an issue waiting months, much less a week. Of course that's barring you're not talking about a busier February time like President's Day or race weekends.

As I understand it, effective today, the 7 day old has been changed to a 3 day hold (at least for 2016 reservations). I'm not sure if this applies to bookings for the rest of this year or not.

Also, I read that for 2016 you can only utilize the hold for 3 days now, not 7. Just FYI, best of luck!

I spend a lot of time checking out resort prices and availability, and AKL standard rooms are typically some of the easiest to get last minute, and they are practically always discounted when room only discounts are available.

I think some people don't like that AKL is the farthest deluxe resort from MK, and many people also prefer to book rooms with savanna views. Personally, I love standard view rooms at AKL. They are one of the best values on property, once the room only discounts are available. I don't think you would have an issue waiting until discounts are published, but it doesn't really hurt you to book now (although there is the argument that the more people book prior to discounts, the fewer discounts that will be available on those particular rooms). Next week? I would be shocked if standard view rooms at AKL are booked solid by next week for February.

Thanks for this information, another one of Disney's changes . The hold used to be 14 days, but Disney changed it to 7 days a few years ago. Now it looks like WDW is following DCL with just a 3 day hold.

We've stayed pool view and savanna view and I loved our pool view just as much as the savanna view. I wouldn't hesitate to book pool view again (or standard if pool wasn't available) as savanna view isn't a necessity for us, either. AKL is out away from everything, but that's one of the things I love most about it as it makes for a peaceful stay .
