Supposed to be leaving from Logan on Monday 9/17. Until we know if the airport will even be open , we are painfully thinking about driving down and hopefully flying back. Has anyone made this trek with 5 y/o kids and how painful was it? Thank you.

My MIL drives from the Cape to FL every fall and returns from FL to the Cape every spring. This year my husband is driving down with her. My husband has 2 brothers and a sister and all 4 of them take turns driving with my MIL. One year my SIL did have my nephew in the car with them. Just keep them busy and take plenty of breaks. If I dont start to feel safer my 9yr son and I will be in the backseat while my husband and MIL drive down in 3 weeks.

We've done this before from Boston... Our kids were 4 & 2... We had a great trip! We stopped overnight at the Sheraton in Richmond VA... we had lots of juice boxes, water, poptarts & cookies (all very good foods LOL)... Our kids really did have a good time... we brought toys & such & also Bear in the Big Blue House music tape.... If you leave Saturday morning, you could be there by late Sunday night with an overnight stop... I wouldn't do it without the overnight stop though....

On the way back, we drove over to Hilton Head Island & stayed at Disney's resort one night & then the next night stayed in Richmond again..... We were on a two week trip... that's worth mentioning.... 2 weeks with that drive is good.. although if you are flying back, 1 week should be okay...

Good luck, it's a nice adventure!!!

We drove it from Ohio....it was NOT fun, we spent the night too I think in GA and in TN on the return. We were exhausted and hit construction on the way home, it was a nightmare. We vowed never again. We drive to TN (6hrs) with our 5 year old and she gets antsy and we get really tried of the Kid's Songs, she wouldn't use headphones.

We are supposed to leave next Sat., and have decided rather than drive and loose all that "park time" we will just reschedule, if we cannot get out.
