I just noticed that our arrival at WDW coincides with the first Star Wars Weekend. How busy will MGM be? Anybody been there for previous Star Wars weekends?

I was there last year the weekend before Memorial Day and didn't notice any difference at all. The only impact we saw was the line for WWTBAM for the Star Wars edition. Nothing else seemed to have a huge increase but we were only in MGM on that Friday.

MGM is open until 1 a.m. that Sunday if you are staying onsite. There are 2 fantasmics that night as well. I think it will be very busy. We're going Friday & hoping for lighter crowds than Sat & Sun. ;)

Went several years ago and the area around Star Tours was crowded but the rest of the park wasn't bad.

We went to Star Wars weekend in 2003 & 2004 (can't go this year :( )
For the most part MGM isn't anymore busier then normal. The only area where you might see more crowds in near Star Tours where they have Star Wars characters walking around & posing for pics.
We love Star Wars weekend!!!! Sure wish we could go THIS year!!!!!!

::yes:: We were there a few years ago and the rest of the park was fine--but when we got near Star Tours, you could barely move!
This year, we'll be there for the last Star Wars week-end and plan on avoiding MGM those days!

Since you went the last two years, do you have any advice or suggestions for a Star Wars fanatic who is finally getting to go? I have read the list of events that will be going on, but if you have any tips or suggestions, I would appreciate it!!

At opening, there are Storm Troopers on the roof of the turnstiles. They say some pretty funny things...like "no sign of intelligent life here" etc.

It's quite a shock to walk up, glance up, and see them.

I'd like some tips, too, if anybody has them. We're going Friday, May 27, so I'm hoping it won't be quite as crazy as the weekend. Besides getting there early, what else should I know?

We ended up there last year and didn't even know it until we got into the Star Wars area on accident, so obviously we didn't notice a difference in the rest of the park ;)

That area was body to body, but the rest seemed normal

We will be there the 2nd weekend too!! My DH is a HUGE SW fan (and now my 2 yr old DS is too!!) he can't wait!!! I've heard that the area around Star tours was very crowded and sometimes it can take up to 1 hr to check out at Tantooine (sp?) Traders. We will have to just deal with the crowds..DH and DS won't want to miss anything!!!!!!

Have a great trip!

We had so much fun at Star Wars weekend!
Our biggest thing was getting pictures with the different characters.
Get there early & go over to the Star Tours area right away.
They has so many characters walking around & posing for pictures. It was great!
Don't forget to visit Jedi Mickey down on Mickey Ave (think that was the street). We went in the building & there was NO ONE else in there. We had Jedi Mickey all to ourselves. It was great & we took lots of pictures.

There are also characters down on Mickey Ave too. We saw Darth Maul last year & my son thought he was so cool. I have a great picture of Darth Maul & my son trying to be look evil.

One thing I noticed is a lot of the characters are in their roles. We had a couple of Stormtroopers (with guns drawn) following us down the street. We had a Jawa trying to make a trade with us. He wanted our camera for an empty film case (we told him no! ;) ). We ran into the Canteen (sp?) band & got a picture with all of them. That was a treat!
Boba Fett was very into his character, but it was all in good fun.

It was so much fun! We loved it & spent most of the day in the Star Tours area just soaking up the Jedi atmosphere!

We did not go in line to meet the celebrites. If that is something that interest you then follow the advice you read on it :)

Check out the cool merchandise at Tatooine Traders!!! In 2003 & 2004 I got a Star Wars weekend coffee mug (in fact I am drinking out of last year's right now). I wish I could get a 2005 coffee mug :( They had so much interesting & cool things to buy.

I am so jealous of you all going to Star Wars weekends! It is so much fun just playing along with the characters! If you love the movies you will love the atmosphere at MGM during Star Wars weekends :)

HAVE FUN!!!!!

Thanks for all of the info. We have been 3 or 4 times during the Memorial Day Weekend and we picked this one in hopes it will be a llittle less busy (not that Memorial Day Weekend was really that bad!!!) My grown son might even enjoy revisiting his childhood obsession with Star Wars.
