How old would you consider to be too old for siblings (opposite sex) to share a bed?

My kids stopped sharing a bed on vacation by the time they were school aged, maybe 5 -7 years old. If we had to share beds, it was me & DD, DS with DH. I can't imagine siblings that age sharing a bed. I have a brother; never wanted to share a bed with him because I was scared or lonley.

My kids are 15 and 11 ~ boy and girl. They don't share a bed now on vacation and I won't force them to. If that means we need an extra room, then we need an extra room. It's probably been a good five years or more since they've shared a bed (only on vacation).

I don't care what anyone else says, the situation you presented Jenna is just odd. Weird and inappropriate. :scared1:

My kids sometimes share a bed by choice. They are sharing a room where we are staying while we wait to close on our house and I will find them in the same bed in the morning occasionally. I don't see anything wrong with it they're five.

ETA- I do think the situation the OP described is weird. Vacation, I could kind of see as a reason... Comfort not so much.

I never had a brother, so it is fair to say that I don't really understand the relationship between a brother and a sister. I know a family who has a son and a daughter. She is 22 and he is 19. They still share a bed quite often. By quite often, I mean anytime that they are on vacation together and occasionally at home if she is feeling in her words "scared or lonely". Now personally, I thought that was a little odd, but they said that it is perfectly normal, that I don't understand the relationship between a brother and sister, and that I am being prudish by thinking it is inappropriate. Now, I know that parents often have their son and daughter share a bed on vacation when they are kids, but is it common for adults to do this, as well?

Flowers in the Attic?

At five, I don't see anything wrong with it. :thumbsup2

My kids are 9 and 12 and hate to share a bed. Once in a while on vacation they will, but we try to get a rollaway or sofabed or my DD will sleep with me and DS with DH. Sometimes on weekends they will crawl into our bed to watch TV with us, but they won't sleep in the same bed unless they absuolutely have to.

I don't see anything wrong with it at 5 years old either. 19 & 22? Whole different story.

Yeah I find that a bit odd. I've been a teacher 11 years, and I have 4 brothers so I've learned a bit about family dynamics. My 3 older brothers are much older-13, 14, and 17 years older. We never stayed in hotels when they lived at home-just visiting family and they camped out on couches, the floor, etc. My younger brother is 4 years younger and we shared a bed in hotel rooms until I was 9 or 10...after that neither of us wanted to share. We'd make him a bed on the floor with the comforter and extra blankets or maybe a sleeping bag if we drove. Did that until we quit traveling as a family when I graduated high school.

The families I know all do similar things or like PP said, mom shares with the daughter and dad shares with the son.

I am part of a huge family, both boys and girls. While we were younger it was very common for us kids to "pile" into bed together.. but as we got older (I think 7/8ish) we individually started sleeping alone... as adults, I would rather sleep on the floor then share a bed with my brother, and I love him dearly. Shoot.. my 9 year old boy and 12 year old boy don't even share a bed anymore..

First thing I thought when I read OP's post is Flowers in the attic!

I'm wondering what kind of childhood they had that would cause the sister finds comfort in her brother like that.

I think this is a little odd! My 12 DS and 14dd would never sleep together at this age!

I have boy/girl twins who are now 13. They haven't shared a bed, for any reason, since they were about 5 or 6 years old. Since then, if we have needed to share beds, it's me with DD, and DH and DS. Now, we are traveling on vacation soon where there is one king bedded room and one room with two twin beds. The kids will share that room (in separate beds, of course!). I see nothing wrong with sharing a room (within reason, and so long as their is privacy maintained for dressing, etc) on an ocassional basis, but sharing a bed seems weird to me.

Not happening here - and I never said anything, but my oldest dd probably started refusing to sleep with her brother around the age of 7 or 8. We usually need 2 rooms - the boy room, and the girl room.

Nope that is really bizarre. My kids will share a bed maybe on vacation but they are 4 and 10 but usually it is my husband and son in one and me and my daughter in the other.
My four year old is a teeth grinder so none of us really want to sleep with him.
