How old were you when you purchased your first DVC contract?

I was 49 & DH was 48 in 2012 when we bought BCV resale. Added on (resale) in 2018 at BLT (without having stayed there) when we knew we would retire the next year. Added on VGF direct in ‘22 and CFW last month. I think we’re probably set for points now but no promises! We use all of our points every year.

I was 40 (almost 41) and DW was 41. I had been wanting to buy DVC for years but for a few reasons we never did. Rented points at SSR and BWV and knew the ins and outs about DVC, so we were as informed as I think you could be before buying.

Combination of having more disposable income and, as I like to call it, my mid life crisis led to our first contract in 2021, 160 SSR points. On our first DVC trip the next spring we purchased direct at GFV. Signed the docs while waiting in line at the car rental agency at MCO (couldn’t purchase where we live so had to wait to get to Florida to sign off)!

Just purchased our third contract this spring at CCV and I think we are done for now.

Haha, I call DVC my mid-life crisis too 😅 I'll personally get more enjoyment out of it than a fancy convertible...

I don't want to disclose too much personal info here - we've been the victim of identity theft one too many times and this thread is viewable by the public - but I love the topic so I'll respond somewhat vaguely:

We bought ours when our oldest was born and let's just say we were roughly the median age for a first childbirth.

I was just shy of turning 42. My husband was 44.

Every couple years, I'd do the math about DVC and decide it wasn't for us because we were happy to stay value/moderate at WDW and off-site at Disneyland. Financially, it didn't make sense.

Then in February 2023, my friend got us a 40% discount at the Grand Californian (regular room, not villa.) It was a place we never thought we'd get to stay. And...it ruined the Harbor hotels for us. 😁 So we purchased VGC.

Then we took our son to WDW for his first visit in January 2024 and used some points to stay at BRV. Once again, ruined other hotels for us. So we came home and purchased some BRV points.

Bought in 2010... small VWL resale contract... I was 38, hubby was 34. And like others I wish I bought sooner... I just knew WDW was where I wanted to vacation regularly... and so it made sense to purchase.

I had only stayed value & moderate... then I stayed at Wilderness Lodge for honeymoon... and loved it... so I bought there. My second resale contract was bought without staying at the resort, AKV. But I don't regret it for a moment.

Just submitted for ROFR my 3rd resale contract this month, again AKV.

We were in the mid-30's when we bought our first contract at SSR. We've added on 4 times since and have really enjoyed our stays. We like moving around to different properties and like to try them all, so home resort priority hasn't mattered as much to us. It makes me laugh when people make it seem like you are staying at a Motel 6 if you have to stay at AKV, SSR, or OKW...

I have already made possible plans from 2025 until 2035 with how many points I would need each trip. SSR in 2025 with a cruise, 2027 AK-K/either BRV or BCV split stay, 2029 AK-J either BRV or BCV split stay 2031 BLT and Universal, 2033 Aulani. I think 2035 will be OKW.

I like the idea of trying every resort.

So when are you staying at Reflections?

😉

46 - this year. Was on the fence for 20 years but always decided renting a house in Orlando for our stays made more financial sense. That changed earlier this year with the incentives offered. Good times!
And you didn't just get off the fence.

You blasted off like a nuclear-powered rocket, leaving the fence in smoking ruins in your wake

We bought our first contract two years ago on my 61st birthday (wife was 57). As a side note we bought at VDH exactly a year later on my 62nd birthday :)

I grew up going to DL and we have been regularly taking our girls at a minimum every other year since 2000. The 2000 trip was when we first started considering DVC (Grand Californian pre-sale). So 20+ years later it finally got to the point where I told me wife, look we have the money, so either we do this now or I don't want to hear anymore about on it.

Four contracts later the rest is history
