How old were you when you purchased your first DVC contract?

We bought DVC in 2013 when VGF opened. DH was 51 and I was 39. Both of us wish we bought sooner but we both are total VGF people so it actually worked out perfectly for us. I do wish we had bought in back in the day with BCV for Food and Wine Festival as we love that but beyond that we are happy with our points. We are up to 500 now between VGF 425 & CCR 75. We will add on more at some point but I am trying to see if DH can live with a studio for our Christmas trips.

I closed on 400 SSR pts two years ago while I was 47. We’ve had four trips on those points already ( SSR, BRV, Poly, AKLJ). Previously we started at wdw in January of 2019 with 2 rooms at The swan. Sharing rooms with teenagers is not a vacation. The next two January trips were at BCV in 2 bdrms. Last fall closed on 160 at BLT but banked the points there until after refurb. Long term plan is for snowbirding but spring break and summer break trips are fun too.

We were 52. In '08 we decided to take our youngest with her then SO. He wouldn't go into the parks because he hated waiting in line. At that time DVC were give 3 anytime FP to attend DVC presentation so we went figuring at least she'd get into the parks and use the PH's we purchased them. Well, after the presentation DH said why didn't we do this sooner. LOL In '08 the incentives to purchase AK reduced the point cost to $98/pp so we finally indulged.

We had looked into DVC about 3 times over the years and just never thought it was worth the $ outlay as we could only afford to go around every 3 years. By 52 our kids had moved on. WDW for 2 is a lot more affordable than 5. Thru '06 to '08, we found ourselves flying off to Disney around 3 times a year for long weekends. While at home I sat on my home PC and arranged air, hotel, AP, ADRs, and FP. While everyone else was complaining about the planning of a WDW vacation, we found it very relaxing. We drove to the airport, parked the car in the economy lot and freedom from work or driving awaited. We didn't see any homeless people or overflowing trash cans. We wandered in late to the parks, rode some rides, stopped for refreshments, wandered into the next park or spent the evening at Disney Springs. It was great. We joined DVC for us because we enjoyed the ease of a WDW vacation. Joining DVC just made it better, although I did have to get use to making the bed. LOL
Believe me when I say one of the positives of DVC for me is not having housekeeping in my space every other day 😂 . I like my space a certain way.

We purchased in 2009. I was 44 and DH was 50. We’d been going for so many years and it’s my favorite place so it made sense, even though our kids were alrighty late teens!!
This is similar to our story but we had a late surprise just as our youngest was growing out of Disney so we decided to timeshare it this time around because dropping 5k at animal kingdom once a year gets old. It wasn’t so bad when we first began visiting the parks but the last 5 years has been painful on our pocketbooks. Eat a little up front and save a little over time, hopefully 😂😂

Spoke with someone at a Kiosk - Dec 97 - me 27 and DH 31
Went on a DVC tour - Aug 2008 - did tour with my parents and was hoping to go in with them - still poor and would not finance
Bought direct POLY in Dec 2016 -Me 46 and DH 50 - was able to convince DH "if we buy it the grandkids will come" (our kids were ending high school beginning college and neither were in serious relationships! LOL!!
Bought resale 2020 during pandemic in July - hate that we are paying off college loans for our kids otherwise we would be one more contract (for now!) However, it is more important to help them in our eyes.

BTW - stayed in a Grand Villa this summer with my parents. Guess who wants to buy in now! Yep, my parents!

I was 56, my husband was 60 and our son who is on all of our contracts was 21. We'd wanted to buy in for a long time but it just didn't make sense for us. We live a good 10 hours away from our families and we enjoy travel in general - not just to Disney. Limited vacation, family obligations and other travel interests didn't allow us to devote enough time to Disney to make it make sense. But as my husband neared retirement we knew we'd have more time for travel so it was finally time to take the plunge. Since that initial buy in we've added on direct and (mostly) resale. Couldn't be happier with our decisions. Down the road as my husband and I age our hope is our son can continue to use the points. If not, there is always the option to sell some of them.

Both of us were 56. We bought during the COVID shutdown in 2020. I had always been skeptical of timeshares in general, but the prices were just sooooo good. Bought a small SSR contract resale. Went and stayed once and addonitis set in. Within a year bought two more contracts, resale at BLT and direct at VGF. I also have to admit having read through this thread, I thought beforehand that we'd be among the oldest first time buyers, was glad to see a lot of us are old!
