How old were you when you left home? (for good)

I "officially" left home at 20, took all my stuff. I bounced back a couple of times, but only for a short period.

I headed off to college when I was 18yo. I usually came home for the holidays, but I spent the summers on my own. So I guess that my "official" answer is 18.

My younger brother, on the other hand, had to be asked to leave my parents' home when he was in his mid-20's. He went off to college when he was 18, but he was lacking in the skills to socialize with other students, and he soon dropped out and went back home to live with our parents. The ironic thing is that my parents now share a duplex with him. So I guess he's still living with them in his 40's.

I was 3 months shy of my 18th birthday. I was basically on my own before I moved out though. No big deal.

I turned out okay :-) I think ;_)

Guess I'm the oddball of the group but I was 33 and didn't leave until I got married. Not that I was too lazy to move out but I stayed to help my mom take care of my Grandmother and then when it was just me and mom it was just easier and kept her company as well. It really helped me save money too so when we got married we were able to put 20% down on a house within a year. Even after I moved out I still called my mom every night to make sure she was ok. I was happiest when she retired and was able to move up by us (but not in with us), but that only last a couple of years until she died at too young an age.

21, when I got married. No way could I ever move back home again!

Let's see, I moved into an apartment for my last year of college at 23, then that summer I moved back home for the summer before moving into my current apartment. I guess my offical answer would be 24. I am currently living with my DSO (he just moved in) and will be married sometime in 2004! :)

The ripe old age of 26, when I got married;)

I was 17. I was out of high school, had a full-time job and was so ready to be out of there!

I was married at 18 and moved out then. My dd's moved out at 21 and 19. My ds and my foster son I think will be here until we die.

Same with me!

I left at 17 to go to college. Since then, the longest I have been back to visit my parents is 3 weeks with one exception. DH deployed after 9-11, and I had 2 DDs (3 years and 4 weeks), so I "camped out" with my parents for 5 weeks.
