How old were you when you first got contacts?

Just curious. DD Brittany got her first pair today. The optomistrist said they usually reccommend waiting until kids are 12, but it depended on maturity, ability to care for them, etc.

Britt really, really wanted them, so we decided to go ahead and let her try.

I was 16 when I got them. Anyone else young when they got them?

I was 16. That was 24 years ago. My parents didn't think they were necessary since I had glasses. I used my baby sitting money and I have never regretted it. :woohoo:

I think I was 15, but they were the old hard lenses and much much different!

I was 13 when I got my first pair. My son got his first pair last summer at age 12. I'm actually very proud of him as he got rigid gas permeable lenses (as are mine). They are very hard to get adjusted to.

9, and I haven't owned a pair of glasses since.
I was the only kid in third grade with saline in my desk. :)

I think my DS is probably one of the youngest. He went into gas perm's at the age of 6. His myopia was changing so fast, the opthmalogist gave it a try to slow down the progression. I was very proud of our little guy for doing this although it was tough in the beginning. Now, is is close to 16 and we are looking forward to when he can have lasix surgery sometime in the future.

I was 17, my eyes were always dry so I switched back to glasses.

My parent's made me wait until I was 16. I guess they figured I would automatically become more responsible when I turned 16. :scratchin Boy, were they wrong.

I was a freshman in high school. The ophthamologist had said that I needed for my eyes to finish their changing to get the lenses, and that would be at about 14.

I was 14, and it was only one lens, since my right eye was nearly perfect and my left was a mess. I still remember how long it took me to put the thing in the first time! It was a soft lens...now I do RGPs, and I need them for both eyes! Can't wait for the day when I can afford LASIK.

I was 18 but my parents didn't think they were such a good idea. Our son wants some but I'm going to wait until the summer between 8th grade and high school when he'll be 14. I'm only doing this because he's a bit klutzy and sloppy and I'm hoping that he'll outgrow that.

My 16 year old is supposed to be getting contacts- I took him last week and he had trouble getting them out so the eye doc sent him home without them, and with "eye-touching exercises". We just haven't been able to get back to get them yet, but everyday I remind him to do his eye-touching :rotfl: .

I got my first pair when I was in the 5th grade. I got my second pair two days later. And my third pair a few days after that. I was a mess and ripped two pairs within the first week. My parents weren't too happy about that. But the contacts were their idea. Looks and appearences are very important to them so they didn't want their kid to be labeled a "4 eyes". So they insited on me getting the contacts. I kept my contacts for about a year and then gave up. Haven't had contacts since. Now I use my glasses only. I only need my glasses though to read, when working on the computer and driving at night. My eyes get tired easy and need the boost. Never been called a "4 eyes" either.

freshman in high school so what is that, 13? so I've been wearing them for 23 years now. man, I'm old.

Yep, you're old. ;) And to make that confirmation, I needed to use my calculator to add up your age. :scared: For some reason I couldn't do the math in my head. The mind is the first thing to go, and I can't remember the second. :rotfl:
