How old was your child when you STOPPED making them Easter baskets?

When I was in high school, the guy I dated's mom made baskets for whoever was there - his dad got one full of godiva chocolate, his aunt got one full of embroidery stuff, his sister got one with stuff having to do with her sorority. He got one full of high-end car care stuff and a radar detector because he was really into his car.

When I started dating DH, I was invited to his mom's house for Easter, but I couldn't make it. We had been dating for about a month, and it would have only been the 2nd or 3rd time I'd been with his family. In my stead, I brought an Easter Lilly plant to Dh's apt, and asked him to give it to his mom for me, and thank her for the invitation/including me. When I saw DH that night after the family stuff (I had my own family stuff to go to), he had a basket for me from him mom full of Bath and Body works stuff. It was the sweetest, most thoughtful thing!

In my family, only DD gets one, but it is normally LOADED with enough candy for the 3 of us - easily. This year, we'll be on vacation, so I'm leaving a dozen filled eggs and her Easter basket. Her sitter will come by and hide things while we're gone, and set up the basket (Lego sets, book, velvet coloring set, cadbury eggs, bumpy jelly beans, peeps) with a note from the Bunny. The Bunny will also have a small gift for her at the hotel on Easter morning.

As for Christmas stockings - EVERYONE who wakes up at our house on Christmas day gets a stocking with (as a minimum) socks, underwear, and a new set of PJ's. (DD's always has more) Then I usually throw in a favorite candy of theirs and maybe a movie. We try to keep it just the 3 of us, but one year, DH's uncle was with us, and when he woke up - boy was he surprised!!! The next year, he tried to join us again for Christmas morning, but DH wasn't having it!

My wife still makes up the baskets. Our 22 year old son eats his up. Our 21 year old daughter dumps the candy in the trash when my wife is not around.

My youngest DD is 18 and I plan on making one for her. I got her an autographed book, DVD, CD and two t shirts from some bands she likes. My oldest DD32 no longer gets one since she has two children. I buy for my grandkids.

I still do Easter Baskets and my kids are in their 20's! Obviously not like the ones I used to make, but with $$$$$, some candy and other things that I know they would enjoy. My mother, who I still miss so very much (she passed in 2011) always made one for my husband and me. She would put candy, nuts, little kitchen things she knew we would use, etc. I always loved them and looked forward to them. I do Easter every year and my wonderful sis-in-law makes a huge basket for my husband and me with all kinds of great stuff. I never thought of baskets as "kids" stuff. I make a basket for my sister-in-law and brother-in-law every Thanksgiving as a hostess gift. It's really all about the things that you put INSIDE the basket. When kids are little it's mostly candy and toys, but when we get older it's so much better!! You can really go all out and be super creative. I will probably always make my kids Easter baskets, just as I will always give them Christmas stockings.

I still do baskets for DS, DDIL both 33 and other DS who is 29. I do a little candy that I know they like and money which they definately like. I also do one for my mom who is 87.

My son is 23 and my daughter is going on 18 and i still make them easter baskets. lol:hippie:

:lmao: Apparently even though she hasn't posted in probably a year, DD16 still reads here and now has a preview of her Easter basket contents :headache: At least I didn't post specifics :rotfl:

My parents stopped giving me one when I was about 12. My DH and I don't exchange baskets either.

When did Easter become Christmas?

Easter used to be about the candy and the Easter bunny. I would be broke if I had to spend on a basket of gifts instead.

Are you all the same people that just gave your kids gifts for Valentines day too?

My Easter basket always had toys in it when I was little, and I'm 45.

My kids just got some candy for Valentine's Day, but sometimes I add a little gift. I rarely buy my kids anything "just because".

I am sorting out all the goodies for a "basket" for my 5 yr old great nephew, 14 yr old nephew, 73 yr old mother and 51 yr old best friend...........so I can pack it all up for a crazy, insane trip for the 5 of us to Kissimmee including time at the MK and Seaworld!!!! I even have things for myself, I can't very well have the Easter bunny deliver a basket to everyone else can I, the 5 yr old would ask questions and I want goodies too :rotfl: I know that there will be surprises in mine from my best friend too! Now I have to get it sorted and packed up in boxes so no one sees it until I can put it together, then I can pack my clothes:banana:

Well I'm a little ahead of you on age but never got toys for Easter. Probably because there was 6 of us kids, we got coloured Easter eggs, a hand full of jelly beans or other type candy and a hollow ...bunny, hen or what ever.

It's just that we had Christmas, then Valentine's Day , Easter, then my kids birthdays come and then people will start saying what did you get your kids for passing their grade , it just seems never ending to me.

I'm not saying it's wrong to make Easter Basket , I guess I am surprised how many put a lot of gifts in the basket as well or never stop doing this even when they can go get there own. :confused3

I don't go all out with gifts in the Easter baskets. I bought the fillers for our baskets today (4 kids). We reuse the same baskets each year. I spent $86. That included a t shirt for each kid, chocolate bunnies, jelly beans, and 3 bags of chocolate candy. I also put in lunch snack packs of oreo cookies, goldfish type crackers and fruit snacks.

I received an Easter basket up through my early 20's. My kids are still young so receive baskets - usually they get a video or coloring book, a stuffed bunny, a chocolate bunny, and maybe a candy novelty, like an Easter Pez dispenser. The adults in the house get a chocolate bunny, and I have a large platter that I cover with Easter grass and add various Easter candies, like jelly beans, small chocolate eggs, and malted milk eggs that everyone shares.

My Easter baskets for my kids (ages 27 and 25 ;)) are small and include a chocolate bunny, some Swedish Fish eggs, some chocolate eggs and the malted milk eggs (and I put a package of silly putty in my daughter's). Total cost of both baskets was maybe $12. It's a gesture, and one that they laugh about and like, even though they have moved and are out on their own.:grouphug:

I am forty and grew up getting toys in my basket. It might be regional, it it is not new :confused3.

Personally, from reading the DIS and talking to others, we seem to spend quiete a bit less on christmas and birthdays than most people, but then i also do nice Easter baskets and often a back to,school gift and a small Valentin's gift. Overall maybe it balances out. Im not sure. I know that my kids have birthdays Christmas week and I enjoy getting them things at other times of the year, seasonal clothes or music or movies tht have come out more recently, outdoor toys when they were little, etc.

I am! LOL
Actually they get Valentines baskets because years ago I found these narrow rectangular straw baskets lined with Valentine fabric and bought them.
They get a card, a small box of chocolates(like the 4piece size), I buy a bag of their favorite candy and throw that in, and then this year DD got Peter Pan in bluray (would have bought anyway) and DS got 3 packs of football cards.

It's just fun. Both kids birthdays are in the fall, as is mine, and DH is in summer, so this just brightens up the winter.
and Easter was always the cute spring stuff like bubbles and chalk when they were little.
Still mostly candy, but I do other stuff, too.

My boys are 25, 22, 13 and 10 and they all still get an Easter basket. Nothing big, just some candy and small gift (shirt, music, dvd).

My boys are 23, 21, and 16. I still give them Easter baskets. I spend maybe $10-12 at the most for each basket (favorite candy - peeps, jelly beans, Cadbury eggs, etc.).

I also do small Val. gifts - usually candy or a gift card for coffee.

I like to remember my boys on special holidays even if I have to ship their baskets now, lol.

I don't spend NEARLY as much as most people on the DIS here for Christmas and birthdays though! :scared1:

My mom STILL does one for my sister and I. This year she is super excited because she gets to do one for DS. Mine now consists of some chocolate, and a shirt or something small like that but she still does something. This is the first year (DS second Easter but she was in ME and he was 3 months old) that she gets to make a boy basket and she never realized everything is "girly" :rotfl:
