How old should a kid be for autograph books?

We have an almost 3 year old and we take him to meet characters at DL every now and again (AP holders), and he's hesitant with them, but doesn't cry or get scared.

We've got a WDW trip coming up in 2 months and my wife is wondering if it's worth it to get an autograph book for him? When did your kids start really getting in to signatures and things?

Thoughts?

Do it. We took our daughter at a little over 2.5 and she LOVED her autograph book. She's loved it more and more with each trip, but she definitely loved it the first time. She was a little timid, and I felt like the book kind of broke the ice with the characters. They sell cute pens too. If you want something cheap because you're not sure about it, you can get an autograph book on Amazon for around $6. If you want something personalized, like I did, you can find one on Etsy for $20. Hope this helps. :)

My then 4.5 year old daughter picked out character autograph cards for the ones she wanted to meet that we had printed and created an album out of them! It's still her favorite album to look through because next to the autograph card is the pic of her with the character :)

Our 3 year old loved the autograph book. Was also a great way to "break the ice" with the characters :)

Can you get autograph books at DW? Or is it something better to get before you go? (I am in NZ, so most things ordered online incur shipping costs on top of actual costs).

Totally! They're not expensive at the parks, either. Just not much of a selection.

A friend of mine uses the pictures with the characters to make an autograph book for he next trip, then those new pics for the following trip, etc. this way, the first year (if they are young) you don't need to get any autographs! After that, they can flip to the right page while in line and look at all their pictures.

We took our daughter for the first time when she was almost two and a half and she wasn't talking much at that point but she could say "sign book". She was very proud to say that to each character she met and it is one of our favorite memories of that trip. We have been each year since then and usually fill up two autograph books each trip. She is now five and we cant get her to stop talking, lol.

I was never really into autographs from characters before, but this year we did a big photo mat with signatures from all the characters and then I put it in a frame with a picture of us from Disney. I LOVE it! My 2, 4, 6, and 8 year olds all enjoyed it.

I saw a family at Disney with that same idea! It looked awesome, but maybe a bit of a pain to carry around?

Ummm well it wasn't too bad, only because we kept it in the bottom of our stroller. We definitely forgot to bring it with us to a couple meet & greets though because of that! We made my 7 year old carry it on the bus and made it his responsibility and he liked that. :)

I'll have to remember that for when mine are older! For now we will stick with books that we can shove in the backpack.. haha!

If your child is old enough to not be afraid of the characters, and old enough to ask for an autograph, why not? It makes a cute keepsake! Our son was 4 when he first did it.

The ones with slots for photos are perfect for the little ones! Even before mine could actually read they loved to "read" the autograph books and reminisce about the trips.

We went with our 2.5 year old, she liked the characters but was too scared to interact with any of them. We took pictures of the characters signing the autograph book, because we knew she would want to look back on the characters later when they weren't face to face. That was almost a year ago and she still loves to look at the autograph book with the signitures and the pictures of the characters signing her book.

So even if your child doesn't enjoy interacting with the characters it's a nice keepsake that they'll most likely enjoy later!

I would just buy one. Even if it is not used then you have it with you just encase you need it. Better to be with one then getting to the character meet, when he sees other people use one offer it to him to see if he wants to use it.
