How old should a child be?

This is a subject that you will find a different answer for each poster. I see no reason why you cannot take her now but others will argue that she will need to be walking or in school or older. When they are babies, the trip is for you & your memories rather than for her. The first time she sees a character & her face beams & you get it on film is something you will remember but she will not. Actually most kids will not remember trips until they are older. I think it has to be at a time that you feel comfortable taking her. I am not fond of waiting for a 'better' time since sometimes that 'better' time doesn't come. Enjoy!

Right now the plan is to take her the year she will start 5-year kindergarten. We will take her in April or May before she starts school in August. She will just have turned 5 at that time.

My older sister goes to Disney every three to four years, she as been doing it since her oldest soon was a child. She plans to go again when her three grandkids are 4, 5 and 6 – right now they are 2 (turning 3 in a couple of weeks) 3 and 4 (turning 4 and 5 this fall). So I guess she will be going in the next 1 to 2 years. That would put my granddaughter at around 18 months to 2 years when she goes. I would love to be able to go with her on that trip and then take my granddaughter again when she is 5. I think she and her cousins would have great fun and a real bonding experience. But if I can only swing one trip then I guess I will wait until she is 5.

The most magical trip with my DS was at about 3-1/2 years of age. He was in awe of everything and so excited. He wanted to be the one to lead the hunt for "hidden mickeys" (really not-so-hidden) and loved every ride we went on.

He'll be 7 in September, and still remembers things from that trip that are not in photographs. Will he remember it forever? Maybe not, but it was still fun.

We've been since then and we still have a blast, but he's got more ideas about what he wants to do now -- where last time he was an open book. (I am not sure if that has more to do with his age or that it's not his first trip anymore.)

We're going back in December when his little sister will be 3-1/2. We went last spring (she was about 18 months) and she enjoyed it -- but she liked people watching as much as anything else. I do not think she remembers much from the trip.
