How old is too old...

I would say 13. Older than that, why not dress up and have a Halloween party or something? I don't know, maybe it is a regional thing but when I was growing up no one in JR high would go trick or treating.

I think that high school seems a little old for this. At that age, we were all at parties unless we were at our jobs. I also got really into scary movies and haunted houses at that age.

But if teens come up and want candy, I won't refuse them. Whatever they want to do is fine with me.

Just took my DD8 to the neighbors home and noticed her 15 year old was not home -- asked her if he was still at FB practice. No, he and the rest of the boys in the neighborhood are out t or t. Told her to let them know I did not have candy for kids their age and they should be ashamed of themselves. IMHO I don't think they'll go to anyone's door.

If someone told me that about my 15 year old trick or treating while they were at my house trick or treating I would promptly tell them to get the hell off my property!! How rude!! Why can't people just let kids be kids while they are young...what harm is it to give a darn piece of candy to a kid coming to the door.....I just had a group of kids, probably about 16 or so come and I gave them each a handful of candy...???? wow...I can't believe people have a problem about one night that only happens once a year!!

My 13 yr old DD went out with her friend, they dressed up as crayons! I didn't think they were too old. I had teens TOTing tonight all in costume who were older. They were having fun. I'd rather they trick or treat than destroy pumpkins and soap windows.

I actually enjoy seeing the teenagers dressed up. My DD attends an Arts High School and almost all of the kids were dressed up for school today.

It does not bother me at all to have teens...I give them the bigger chocolate bars..

My town trick or treats on Sunday afternoons, which is kind of lame. I trick or treated through seventh grade, so I was 2 weeks shy of my 13th birthday when I trick or treated for the last time. I do know kids who would go to surrounding towns right through high school, to trick or treat at night. Had I known people in the surrounding towns, I probably would have done the same. I wish we had trick or treated at night. I think it would have been fun. My mom never set an age limit for when we had to stop trick or treating. My sister stopped around 13 also. Mom's only requirement was that we stop when we no longer wanted to trick or treat. My costumes the last couple of years were pretty simplistic, just an apron, and carrying a wooden spoon (a cook), but I had fun. Now granted, I'm only 18, but I think having fun is the most important part. If we actually got trick or treaters we'd give candy to the older kids too. But we don't get any anymore.

My 17 year old and her friend just returned from TOTing and are now watching Nightmare Before Christmas. There is no doubt in my mind that they were well behaved and polite. This was her last chance to TOT and have a great time. I'm glad she was able to do it. I think we worry to much about what looks right and what should be.

DD has always loved Halloween and dressing up. She went out last year at 15 and probably would have gone this year if she could find anyone to go with her. I don't see a problem with it as long as she's polite (which she is).

We just got home from taking Dd12 and some of her friends out. No one seems to have a problem with their age. I honestly can't remember how old my other kids were when they stopped. I do remember my oldest DD who is now 25 going out with us when she was 15 when we took our youngest who was 2 1/2. The oldest was dressed as Cinderella and the youngest as Snow White.

I don't know how long the youngest will want to go, but my DGD's are 2 months and almost 2 so I guess I will be going with them I love going out.

My DH usually dresses up and people give him candy all the time, they actually call him up to the door.

In my town the official age to TOT is 12 and under, but I know there were some older teens out. I will treat anyone who is willing to come to my door and say trick or treat, I have no limit.

This has been discussed quite a bit the last couple of days. I welcome any and all trick or treaters. I sure prefer for them to be in costume, but if an adult wants to dress up and come to my door I would gladly hand them candy.

It's a fun, social night. Just like older kids and adults can enjoy Disney, they can have fun and enjoy trick or treating.

I would never tell my kids that they are too old. My 12yo dressed up and went out this year. By the time my older kids were about 13 they didn't want to ToT. At that age they were more interested in going to parties. I have a few years left with my 5yo, though.

Wow! is all I can say to that. Having your own opinion is one thing, but to tell the neighbor that is amazing.

Why not reward them for bring good kids.

And it sounds like maybe you know this is going to turn into a debate.

I think this is so silly. If kids 18 and under want to come to my house for a two hour period once a year and ask for candy, I'm going to give it to them. I don't make rules about who can and can't come to my house on Halloween, and I don't pass judgement on high school kids who still want the candy. It's just not a big deal to me. And I don't think it's anything their parents need to be ashamed of, either.

My guess would have been my 12yo would not have gone this year but her 9yo step-sister wanted her to be "twin witches" so she went.

I have no problem with HS kids out trick or treating. I saw lots tonight, many said hello to my dh, who is their band director. All were doing nothing to harm anyone- just having a little fun. None seemed to want to scare the little kids- I heard a lot of "Awww, how cute"- that's about it.

to trick or treat? I stopped allowing my son to go out on Halloween when he entered middle school, I think the year he turned 11. Actually, it was the year he didn't want to make/buy a costume, just wanted to throw on a mask and terrorize the neighborhood kids I think He was and still is allowed to attend a Halloween party if he is invited.

My dd is 16 and was out for about 5 hours today trick or treating. She loves it! She was with a group of school friends who are all 16. Some of the older kids in the neighborhood about 17-18 like to just run around and put shaving cream all over themselves. But my dd likes the candy!

We ran out of candy and turned off the lights just before 8 so we so few older kids. From my experience, they tend to be out a little later. I would have certainly given them candy but they never arrived!
