My mom, who secretly wants one I think, said that my DD12 needs a Pal Mickey. I am thinking, WDW, $70, July, $70, stuffed animal to keep up with, $70, drama queen 12 yo, $70 ....... uh, no. I think my 12 yo is too old, and since we will already have fanny packs, lanyards, etc. - basically looking like touring hobo's anyway, that this is just one more thing to have to keep up with. And guess who will be the one keeping up with it if Miss Drama doesn't want to carry it anymore? Nope, not grandma. Really though, is it worth it?

WELLLLLL, we bought PAL MICKEY when it first came out I think like 3years ago. YUP, $60.00. (at the time)! For my 18 year old SON. He really wanted it, it was his bday while we were there and quite frankly DH & I and his older bro were rather intrigued by the "little guy", so we bought him. ::MickeyMo

WE LOVED IT. DS carried it everywhere PROUDLY despite being a SENIOR in high school.

We listened to everything Mickey would tell us i.e. trivia in the PARKS etc etc as well as everything else he tells us. ::MickeyMo

DH & I have been TWICE since we bought him and my DS has been away at college. (He does have a MATURE side to him...hahaha)!! AND you will never guess who made more than enough room in her overloaded suitcase for Mickey....YUP...ME and I am proud to say I am 52yo and loving every minute I had with PAL MICKEY.... ::MickeyMo

You will hear lots of positive stuff about Pal Mickey. I'm afraid that I didn't care much for him. I got a free, one-day trial with a Pal Mickey, back when they first came out. It was a hot, crowded day at the MK and first of all, as an adult, the last thing I wanted to do was carry a plush mouse around with me. I really couldn't hear him over the crowd noise and I brought him back to the store after a couple of hours. I'm not criticizing those who love him, I'm just saying that it wasn't for me.

I'm 53 and I have a Pal Mickey.

One my last trip to WDW in January I saw that Pal Mickey now has a carrying strap that you can hang across your body.

Wow, thanks for the quick replies. :thumbsup2 Maybe I can convince my mom that she doesn't need to use DD as an excuse to buy one. See, I know how she thinks. Her reason for saying that my DD needs the Pal Mickey is 1 of 2 reasons......1. So I will have to carry the little sucker around when DD gets tired of carrying it, or 2. So she can talk grandpa into buying a Pal Mickey with a minimum of trouble. I know, I know, she could just buy it herself and circumvent grandpa, but that wouldn't be nearly as fun as getting him to use his money. Yeah, the games my family plays...... :rotfl:

I love my Pal Mickey. However, I'll be honest and say I would NEVER have bought one for my 12 year old. The things that you say are correct, you will be the one carrying him by the end of the trip.

My DD's are 17 & 20 now and are not interested in having their own. However, my DH, girls & I all enjoyed him in the parks. I was the one carrying him (and didn't mind).
I don't know what you do for your mother but I'd considering buying one for her!

By jove! That just may be the answer......buy it for her before she can saddle one on me :stir:

It really wasn't bad carrying it around. It has a hook that I clipped to my fanny pack. Yes, I know ... fanny packs aren't fashionable ... but they are practical at Disney. There is also a lanyard but I get back aches so carrying backpacks and hanging any weight around my neck would have affected my back. A good portion of the time, I just carried him because I enjoyed listening to him and it was easier than taking him on & off my belt.

I'm 35, and got Pal Mickey when he came out. I actaully used my reward dollars for it. I still carry him on every trip. My kids love it. I just clip him to my fanny pack and go.

I was really sad that i couldn't take him when we were in DL this past Feb.

I keep him on my dresser, and think about my next vacation.

I believe that you are NEVER TOO OLD for anything in WDW!!! That's what makes it special! :wizard:

My nephew has a Pal Mickey since they came out, we use it on every trip.
It's lots of FUN. And really was a GREAT help in Animal Kingdom...WOW Mickey told us many 'secrets' while we were there.

I'm almost 58 and my son and DIL gave me a Pal Mickey for my birthday last year. I love it. We took it to the parks last fall and we'll have it for our next trip.

Well I don't know how old is too old? But my Pal is now three and 1/2 years old and is currently looking forward to his 4th trip to the World.

I would never stuff him in the suitcase. He rides with me on my belt and even had a window seat the last trip going down to MCO. I have the pictures to prove it! Mickey is just the best. In addition to all the great info and jokes and games- it's been fun finding clothes for him....(the real Mickey even autographed his sun visor last year). Mickey and Minnie always make a big deal of him at meals and in the parks. Even the princesses pointed and smiled when he was sitting on the table at CRT last year. I have lots of pictures of Pal Mickey touring the world, enjoying meals and even a beer in Germany. He was a great companion on my solo trip in 2004.

When I purchased him at the resort gift shop, the resort delivered three balloons and a special card from "Your Pal, Mickey Mouse" welcoming me to WDW and wishing me a great time. It is one of most special souven"eers".

Too old, don't think so! ::MickeyMo

It's funny - on our last trip I REALLY wanted a Pal Mickey, but thought my two DS's (9 & 11 at the time) would just think it was babyish. When I asked them one day what they thought of a Mickey Mouse with a computer chip in it that would download all kinds of current info as we walked through the park, they thought it was the COOLEST thing in the world and kept asking if they could each have one! I lucked out last summer as, I read on Mousesavers.com, that the Disney outlet in Florida was selling an old model for about $13! (If I remember correctly) so I ended up buying two! I packed them in their suitcases so when they opened them when we arrived they were ECSTATIC!! We got lanyards when we were there and those kids wore Pal Mickey around their necks the entire time! You can even attach him to the waist of your pants or a pocket if you get tired holding him! I don't think you can ever be too old for Pal Mickey!

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only adult who has and carries a Pal Mickey...although yeah he gets to ride in my carry-on on the plane :rotfl:

I agree with DISUNC, you're never to old for anything at Disney....it's like your pass to be as young as you want.

I personally love my Pal Mickey if not just to walk around the parks and act like a moron with the little fella. He tells some great jokes that I always laugh at and DBF always looks at me like I'm crazy for laughing, but it does keep us entertained while waiting in lines for rides!!!

In my opinion there is no age limit to the Pal Mickey :teeth:

You left him to home!!!! See if you had waited till Sept2006 there would have been other Pal Mickey fans there with their Pals. Yup, it's true he doesn't work at DL but we can't imagine a trip without taking one of them. The 3 regular travelers each have the original and the HCOE versions. Since they don't work in DL we'll be taking the older version. It seems fair, the HCOE was with us when we finished our first Half Marathon (ok, they were in the room but we have pictures with them and our medals the next day LOL. So it seems only right that the original is there to share our 2nd in DL ;)

We've had our original versions since 2003. Love them!!!

Hi Vicki :wave2:

I too agree that you are never too old for anything at Disney world! I have both editions. A friend gave me the newest edition as a gift last fall. Good thing because i left my pal mickey at home by mistake! We love him DH and I have had PM on 4 trips and enjoy his info. We are in our 40's and have no kids! Get Grandma her own. SOunds like she would love it and Disney now has clothes for Pal Mickey

lol i love my pal mickey and i'll be 32 this year. He is starting to get his own wardrobe now I keep his clothes in the backpack with my other stuff. He has his tux, a safari suit, mickey mouse club and his slicker now to go on next trip. he is ready for anything WDW puts up for us :rotfl2:

How cute!! I didn't know they made clothes for him. :rotfl: Unfortunately I don't have to make this decision immediately, as I found out yesterday that we are going to have to push our vacation back to Oct. :sad1: But hey, less heat, less crowds, MNSSHP, and the food and wine festival. How can I really complain? :drinking: I betcha dollars to donughts that we end up with 2 Pal Mickeys. One for mom, and one for DD12, cause if she can accessorize, DD12 will be in heaven. For about 10 min or so anyway.

If you want to accessorize, there is a Pal Mickey club that has info on where to buy accessories. The site is palmickey.net and has lots of cool pictures with adults who love their Pal Mickey. Anyone that wants a Pal Mickey should go for it!!!!!
