How old is to old??

At that age I would think they walked into the wrong room. Our son is almost 12, he would be beyond mortified if I expected him to go into the women's room. He would likely balk at the idea of me waiting right outside of the men's room.

What OP didn't say was how the boys reacted when she walked in. Guilty? Embarrassed that they had to be in there, like their mom made them? Did they bolt? Their reaction could be a good indicator if they were up to something, forced by an adult to stand there, or walked in to the wrong room.

I think age 10 is a good cutoff age.

10:scared1:? Some kids start middle school at 10 here (depending on birthday). Most are in 5th grade. I can't imagine a 5th or 6th grade boy in a ladies room unless he had some developmental issues. I think by 2nd grade a boy s/b able to go into the mens room and into a stall while mom waits outside.

When I was at Disneyland Paris last week, a man walked right into the women's bathroom with his family. At first I thought it was a mistake - perhaps he didn't realize that he was accidentally in the women's. But no - he stood in line with all of the women to wait to use the bathroom. So odd. I wanted to take a photo but decided that would be inappropriate and just as bad as the man in the ladies' room.

I think 7. I understand the 10 year old cut off but think my DD9 and DD11 would think it was weird having a 10 yr old boy in the restroom at the same time.

I think that is a little old for being in the ladies bathroom. I do think that they probably wandered into the wrong bathroom though. My friends son is 11 and from the age of about 7-8 he would no longer go into the 'girls' bathroom with his mum, I think this would be similar to the way most young boys would think.

Afterall, girls have cooties don't cha know!??!!! :p

My son is six and no way would I let him in a public restroom alone. Although I feel like he is getting close to the point where I don't feel comfortable taking him into the ladies room. I haven't really been at Disney without a male adult to take him, but if I were in that situation, I'd seek out a family restroom if possible. If not he would have to go in with me.

I think ten sounds like a reasonable cutoff.

Seriously? Did u join the Dis yesterday?

12-13 would creep me out.

Depends on which forum she goes to. I don't see it much here on the CB but Lord say you if you ask on the Theme parks board.

Over there it's perfectly fine with darn near beer drinking "kiddies" to use the ladies room.

I will say this though, one thing I find funny is when people say they are worried about crazy strangers stalking the mens room but get mad when you say you don't want your little girl running into a 10 year old boy in the ladies room.

lastly, I truthfully can't imagine a 11 or 12 year old not pitching a fit to have to use a ladies restroom. No way, no how would my sons go for it without very loudly voicing their displeasure (and that's putting it nicely)

I think people get so weird about the bathroom. Arent you behind a closed door in there?
I have taken my 8 and 9 yo ds in the ladies room and i could really care less what anyone thinks about it.

I think some of it depends on the kid. One of ds's friends has no developmental delays, but is nowhere near the maturity of a lot of classmates. There is no way I would trust him in the some of the same situations I trust my ds. I would take him into the ladies room so if he got distracted (admiring himself in the mirror, let's say..) I wouldn't have to go marching into the men's room to get him.

Yep, this, exactly. I wouldn't care if Disney converted bathrooms to all gender bathrooms. It's not a big deal. You're not in there for show and tell. I have on occasions used men's bathrooms in emergencies when the wait for a woman's bathroom was too long or when a women's bathroom was out of service. Sorry if that offends.

When my children were old enough to attend elementary school, they started using the public bathrooms alone.

I wouldn't want my 10 year old boy in the ladies room. Yes, most if the private stuff is done in the stall. But I've seen women expose various body parts for a variety of reasons out in front of the sinks, where everyone can see them. I've seen it more than once at Disney from women who sound like they are from a different part if the world where nudity is not as taboo.

The worst was a lifeguard at a waterpark shaving her lady bits in the sink before her shift. And the changing stalls and showers weren't full. She was using the mirror.

Funny that everyone here is so paranoid about strangers in the bathroom. When in reality it is people that are in positions of trust are going to be the ones abusing children the vast majority of times.
I am not trying to flame, I simply wanted to point out that simple fact.
I come from a place where strangers are friendly and happy to help you.

Exactly, it's hilarious. Like, you tell your kids if they are in trouble to look for a woman with kids to help. Because obviously, an adult man or woman without kids is going to kidnap your child.

I think if you have an older son and don't want him to go in the restroom alone you should go in the men's room with him. Then you will be the one getting stared at and feeling uncomfortable, not him.
