OMG, when did this happen? I was always "young". I am the "youngest" in my family. I am the fun one.

So all of a sudden it hit me: I am 51. So unless I live to be more than 102; I am past middle age?!:scared1: :scared1:

So, when do my nieces and nephews start referring to me as "my elderly aunt"? :sad2: :sad2:

You will live to be 111.
I am going to start referring to you as 'my elderly aunt Im' when you turn 79. Just a heads up.:thumbsup2

Its all your state of mind.

Personally I think of elderly as being into your 80's

50 is just getting started, or so Ive heard ;)

It depends on the person. My parents are in their mid-late 60s and I don't consider them elderly. They're very active and keep busy and keep up with "the times". They go on vacations, they play with the grandkids, they have satellite, tivo, laptops, ipods and iphones.

When I first met MIL over 10 years ago (she was probably right around 60) she seemed elderly to me. She and her husband are not active and they just sit around anc act like old people. Obviously, they are older now, but even when they were younger than my parents are now, they still acted a lot older.

Apparently there are some on this board, who post elsewhere that consider me elderly, not in a 'flattering' way however.

Here is a quote:

That is one sad old woman.

Of course people who participate in that kind of thing never see themselves. That has been infinitely interesting to me.

Well, DH and I are going to see "The Little Mermaid" on Broadway Sunday!
And, we are going to Disney next month. I guess I still have a *little* time left :thumbsup2

Did I ever tell you, you are my favorite?

(I didn't know where you were lately)

it depends on the person....in my job I meet some of the most elderly 50 year olds and some 80+ people that act younger than my mom (in a good way)..I tell those ladies that I want to be them when I grow up. :goodvibes In fact I am very sad because one of my favorite ladies, who will be 90 in July, has had a rapid decline and I now see her as elderly. :guilty:

Let's see .... I'll be 41 in May so I'll say elderly is 123!

I don't think you are sad or old. :thumbsup2

*some* people need to get a life!;)

I know I am your favorite.

Here, let's have some beer in the sink. That will make us feel young.

I have a saying and it goes like this, "Old age is always 10 years older than what I currently am." And if I'm in the company of people who are 10 years older than I am, then it becomes 10 years from them and so on. Basically, you become elderly when you want to be elderly. Does it make sense? Probably not, but I tried.

I agree that it depends on the person. My mother was elderly even as a teen (and this comes from my uncles who knew her then). My dad didn't start to be elderly until he was in his 60s and had some health problems.

I tell my middle school students that I'm elderly and I'm 41 -- they seem to agree. :lmao:

Yup, that did the trick!!!:woohoo:

Thank you! Actually "elderly" was the nicest thing that I was called. ;)

Eh, they're just jealous!;)

Makes perfect sense!!:thumbsup2

If you have to iron everything you wear, you are old. If you pee on everything you wear, you are elderly. :lmao:

When I start ironing my face, take me out back and shoot me!

I like you, so I feel the need to warn you that slamming ironing with Auntie Im is not the way to go. :scared1:

I feel that "young" people are in their 20's and 30's (younger than 20's are just kids!), "middle age" are people in their 40's, 50's and 60's. "Elderly" are the 70's, 80's and 90's. Ancient is 100 and above. :) I am 50, so I've got 20more years before I reach "elderly" status. :)
