How old would your child have to be to be allowed to go to a midnight premiere of a movie on a school night?

Someone I know let their daughter go to New Moon and she seemed kind of young to be seeing the movie in the first place, let alone going at midnight, which isn't even over until 3:00 on a school night.

Maybe they had a deal "You don't miss any days, and I'll take you to the movie, and you can stay home" KWIM?

Remember that kid dressed all funny, getting stared at in the TSM line? He was out of school alllll those days. ;)

I was considering taking my DD15, but we ended up not getting the tickets in time so we went the next evening. I wasn't going to take DD12, because she hadnt read the books and never saw the first one.

I have a SIL who took my DN who is 10 and I thought that was wrong.(JMHO)

The kid with the horrible shoes? They were so ugly! ;)

Bribery is always good motivation.

Well, let's see...my DS is 10 now and we took him to the last two Harry Potter movies at midnight. I don't remember but he may have been 8 the first time???

None of my kids were interested in the new moon premiere, however, There have been special occasions where I've let my kids skip school because of something that was important to them from the night before. Sometimes you just gotta go with the moment and create memories.

During school...not. My 15 year old wanted to, sorry, not happening.

I think there was some big thing she had to do at school the next day anyway so it wouldn't have worked but umm...NO.

Also the fact that I would have to actually be the one to DRIVE her to the theatre & pick her up since she can't drive (and even if she had her license it would be past curfew & not allowed to drive then if she happened to be 16). I had no desire to see the movie anyway..so ugh.

My co-worker let her DD17 go to the midnight New Moon premiere on a school night. But she didn't have to be at school the next day until 10:00 because she's a senior and has a shortened schedule. I would have let my child go in that situation. But if she was much younger or had to be to school early, she'd have to wait until the weekend to see the movie.

I would take my oldest if it was something he was DYING to see. Well.. Most likely my husband would, because if Alex wants to see it, odds are my husband would too!

I don't have a "set age"-- when a movie opened at midnight that we wanted to see we went--I guess she was about 8 at the time...the next day she just slept in and went to school late. Last week we were in a bar for a fundraiser selling raffle tickets until midnight on a Thursday night(she is 10 now- and kids are permitted at this fundraiser)...the next day she slept until about 930 and went into school when she got up.

I think the child is old enough to go when their parent says they are. It is up to the individual parents and child.

Depending on the situation, the child, the movie...etc. Too many variables for me to say emphatically I would not.

Sometimes life is made up of little moments with my children that they remember. Standing in line at midnight at Game Stop to get one of the Madden's games and then letting them come home and play the game till they dropped. Not everyone's idea of a good time but a moment for them. It was Christmas vacation and they were 10 and 12.

So, honestly for me it would depend. The kids very rarely miss school and do well so for me, if they wanted to go that badly I would probably let them go and sleep in and go late the next day. Sometimes I think of all those little things my mom let me do when I was younger..they stick with me. So staying up and seeing a midnight premier of a movie, well its one of those times that I know that I would definitely think about it. But again, I am not talking about kindegartners though!

I wouldn't let any school aged kid do this on a SCHOOL NIGHT, non-school night depends on the kid. Our youngest, probably never because he wouldn't be able to stay up for the movie and I am not going to spend money for him to sleep in the theater :lmao:

I would NEVER allow my child to go to school late because they were up too late the night before.

I agree it is all on a case by case basis.
I agree with making memories:3dglasses

I did take my dd to the midnight release of the Harry Potter BOOKS...does that count? ;)

I agree with some that I would probably allow it for a movie my kid was real excited about, but I would not allow my kid to go into school late the next day. And I would be totally clear with my kid about that up front. Just like I wouldn't take them out of school early to go see a movie. :confused3

I took DS when he was around 8 to see POTC. I could never take dd- she needs her beauty rest for sure! DS is usually already up when I get up, so he can handle less sleep.
Edited to add: He did not miss any school. If I thought he couldn't see it without missing school, I wouldn't take him.

We did this for the Half Blood Prince. The town where we went combined the event with a midnight train ride and on the ride they read the first chapter of the book. The kids had a great time :thumbsup2 but it was in the middle of the summer-not a school night.

I went to the New Moon midnight premiere. I stayed the night at my sister's house and then whenever I woke up, I got ready and went to school because I can drive. I just brought a note from my parents and checked myself into school. I only missed 1 period.

I went to Harry Potter at midnight and I was 18. That was my first midnight movie. My mom's rule was as soon as you can drive yourself there, you can go. That was during the summer though.

When I was 16 I went to a Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban concert in NYC, about a 20 minute train ride away, on a Wednesday night. My mom knows how much I like them, and she let me go as long as I didn't give her about going to school the next morning. I went, had a great time, got home at 2:30, and got up to go to school at 6:30. I loved it and I did it again the next year when Carrie came to NYC on a Sunday.
