How often do you stay at your home resort?

We just had our offer for VWL accepted by the seller:cool1: Now for the hard part, passing the ROFR.

Thanks everyone for all the great info! Your responses have got me thinking about another question. It seems some of you like to split your stays during longer trips. Is this because it is hard to book 10 or so consecutive nights at the same DVC resort? Our average stays are 10 nights.

We usually stay 14 nights (unless we have a Disney cruise - then it's only 7 night) at WDW and we prefer NOT to split our stay.

The only time I would split my stay is if we wanted a 1 bedroom and I didn't have enough points - so I'd end up booking a few days in a studio in the same resort and finishing off our vacation in a 1 bedroom. We've only done this once. I only had enough points for 12 nights in a one bedroom at BCV so I booked 2 nights in a studio at BCV at the beginning. It was really annoying to move rooms - we used the moving day as a shopping day...now I wished we just stayed at the resort that day and have my husband and kids spend the day at the pool while I shopped at the resort...lesson learned.

If I couldn't get all my nights because it wasn't available, I would book another resort - I've always had luck booking 14 straight days at AKV or VWL.

I like around a 10-night stay too. We own at BLT and have stayed there every trip (since 2009). A couple of years ago I decided I wanted to add a night on to our trip. We were booked 10 nights at BLT and I wanted an 11th at about the 9-month mark. It was not available. At 7 months I dropped 2 nights at BLT and added 3 at AKV. So, we did a AKV(3) / BLT(8) split stay. I loved it! Our third split stay is comming up this year - AKV(5)/BLT(6). Those are still the only resorts we have stayed at. We are planning to add on some points at AKV because we love it there!

We stay at our home resort (well one of them) most of the time. Might be surprised that it is SSR, but I do really enjoy the resort. I like the proximity to DtD and most bus services to DtD are horrible. We generally go to DtD several times a trip to eat at Earl of Sandwich, pick up caramel apples, shop or whatever. When the kids were younger it was easy for someone to go grab a snack at DtD and bring it back to the room.

I like the fact that bus service to the parks is pretty consistent regardless of the park and we just leave the same amount of time for anypark (45 minutes).

Many of the other resorts have bad bus service to the parks they are not adjacent to. It seems to be accepted as just they way it is and most of the die hard fans of those resorts even defend it by saying, but we are so close to _____!!

I like the point charts there, not the cheapest, but it is pretty cheap compared to a lot of the other resorts. Because it is the one of the last resorts to book up completely, it usually has extra capacity and I have generally always been able to get my room request (THV's are different).

They have even added a second feature pool and quick service, which just helps the resot a lot for the people that did stay on that side of the pond.

Everyone is different and will have their own preference. We just enjoy the resort and the cons are minimized for how we like to vacation.

Hello,
3. How often do you stay at resorts other than your home resort?

We stay at other than our home resort usually 90% of the time.
A lot depends on what we are doing that particular stay:
Resort only stay - AKL; BCV; OKW
Parks - BCV; BWV; VWL
Shopping/Going to other than WDW Parks/Last Minute Trip - AKL; OKW; SSR
Touring/Beach/Doing Something Different - VB; HH

Hello,

1. Are there any other times of the year other than October and Early December that are busy for DVC?
2. Are there any resorts that are hard to book 7 months out regardless of the time of the year?
3. How often do you stay at resorts other than your home resort?

Thanks,
Bill

2. The villas at grand Californian are tough to get into.
3. We've owned since 2011 at animal kingdom and have done Aulani and are going to vgc in September. Our next trip will be akv at wdw but we've been waiting for them to finish construction/fast pass + stuff.

Never...we own at ssr and have always gotten blt or bcv either at 7 months or by waitlisting. If i had to stay at ssr id be ok with it though.

We own at AKL and we stay here 90% of the time. We have stayed at SS and BLT. We will probably try some others in the future, but I am afraid of waitlisting, so I book AKL 11 months out and if I can't change at the 7th month mark, we stay put at AKL .

We own at BLT and SSR and have only stayed at BLT once and SSR once with a second stay coming in October. We do like to stay at different resorts each trip but have only stayed at BCV (twice) and VGC (once) since we became members in 2010. The next resort we want to try is VWL. The only resort that filled up fast at our 7 month mark was VGC because the Villas side of the resort is very small. We booked it right when the online booking opened up at 7am and when I checked again later that day, some of my dates were already filled up. As for WDW resorts, depending on the time of year you want to go is whether it will be hard to get or not. For instance, BCV and BWV is very popular during F&W festival.

Did you pass ROFR?

Yes we did! Thanks for asking. We passesd on 8/9. We were out of town so I did not get our payment to the Title Company until 8/16. So we are anxiously waiting for everything to get wrapped up.

we own BWV, BCV, & SSR (DVC since 1999).

we stayed at almost all the mods, deluxes, & DVCs, sometimes staying the entire vacation at a "new to us" resort, other times, just a few nights (10-14 day vacations at least 2x year).
but found ourselves missing the BWV whenever we were elsewhere :cloud9: it's the one, the only resort that we feel totally relaxed at, but never, ever bored.
so, yes, we do stay mostly at one of our home resorts, but only because we've found our favorite after trying the others.

btw, we hope to book a few "try a new resort" nights at the VGF in the next couple of years - we love the GF :)

Congrats on passing ROFR!
We always stay at our home resorts of OKW and AKV. I really don't have any desire to stay at the others. Love the look of VWL, but since we live in a log lodge, it doesn't appeal to me to stay there on vacation. Also, we find we do NOT like the layout of the BWV, BCV, VWL, and SSR units.

congrats, i'm ur neighbor at both WL & ur hometown;)

We own at AKV and SSR, on points we have stayed as follows:

1. 6 stays at AKV (4 for us, 1 for my sister/niece, 1 for parents/nephew)
2. 4 stays at SSR
3. 2 stays at BCV
4. 2 stays at OKW
5. 1 stay at BWV
6. 1 stay at WLV (for friends of ours)

So yes, we primarily stay at our home resorts, but we definitely enjoy trading in to the other resorts. Our next stay at AKV will be this December, and hoping for BLT in June, and WLV next November. So far we have either gotten what we wanted right at 7 months or our wait lists have always come through.

We own at BWV and OKW. We usually stay at BWV for big family trips. The kids love the Boardwalk and easy access to EP and HS. We stay at OKW for more laid back adult trips. We take advantage of the 11 month booking. Often we will book OKW at 11 months then change at 7 months. We've stayed at. VWL, BLT,SSR,AKL.

Am I reading right that you can book your home resort at 11 months, but then at the 7-month mark, swap it for another resort that is open? Any penalty or cost to do this?

At 7 months there might not a lot available depending season and desired villa. We only do it if we would be content to stay at the origami resort.

We own at OKW & BWVs and mostly stay at one of them depending on time of year. We have stayed at SSR, BCVs, VWL, & BLT, too. This past April we were able to stay at VGC but felt very fortunate to get the week at the 7 mo. window. We love our home resorts so are never disappointed if we can't book another resort. We are also not fans of split stays..
