I have dogs so I think I shampoo mine a lot, usually every month to month and a half, depending on how bad the dogs have been. That's what I've been doing today, right now I'm taking a break because that machine is heavy! :upsidedow

I am obsessed with clean carpet...I shampoo them every weekend:banana: I'm really glad I have my own shampooer or I'd probably go broke:confused3

If you are going to shampoo often do yourself a favor and make sure you use some dry type method. I used to shampoo a few times a year and when I pulled the carpet up there was so much mold from using a wet type carpet shampooer. I was horrified to think my toddler was down there playing on that!

we cant afford carpet. we so poor our whole house has hardwood floors.

The machine I use sucks the water back up. You have to go over it a few times but it gets dry pretty quickly.

We have our carpets cleaned every 4 months, so three times a year. We use Stanley Steemer and they do a wonderful job.:thumbsup2

Mine did that too...it was the Big Green Clean Machine but it obviously didn't dry them fast enough.

I spot clean as needed. It really isn't very good for your carpet; and the more you shampoo, the more you need to shampoo.

I'm jealous! I wish we had hardwood floors!
Our apartment has ugly beige carpeting, and now that we have a shampooer I clean every week or two. That's really gross about the mold though! Our carpet is usually dry in 1-2 hours...I dunno if I should be worried. I assume being Florida mold's gonna grow where it's gonna grow, and it's better to clean than not to?
Oh g-d, now I'm going to be up tonight obssessing over my carpet shampoo habits! :rotfl:

Usually our carpet dries in about 45 mins to an hour. If I can ever get new flooring I won't shampoo as much.

Me too, except I add 1 visit - I have white berber carpeting because I am stupid, I just buy their annual contract and they only have 1 technician who is allowed into the house. the tight loop of the berber makes it a bear to clean and if not done right it streaks or turns beige.

I do the entire house every spring and then the main areas in Aug, Nov/Dec & Feb/Mar weather depending. It can't be 5 degrees or it won't dry.

P.S. We only use soap 1 time about every other year all other times it is pure hot water, no soap.

I have hardwood floors throughout the house. When we first moved in, the kids were one and three. It took waaaaaaay too much work to keep up with the maintenance of keeping them looking good, I just didn't have the time. The kids were always slipping or dropping bottles of juice and milk on them. I relieved my stress by covering them in carpet:banana: Maybe after the kids are gone, I will get rid of the carpet and restore the hardwood

I think Stanley does an excellent job. The drying does take a long time, but I think the carpets look like new, and I love the fact that they are clean.

I have a dog and a cat, so it really helps.

Never Ash...we have hardwood floors. I'll never go back to carpet - too much work.

I used to sell carpet . We were taught that shampooing is bad for your carpet. You need to vacuum often. We told our customers to invest in a good vacuum cleaner.

Very true.

Heres a tip for the folks that have to shampoo their carpet every month....take the dog out!

My DH installs Carpet. He says to never ever shampoo it.It is very very bad for it.
And if it has to be done it needs to be done with a steam cleaner.
It will break down the backing on the carpet. It also cause mold to whch is not good.
So I have never shampooed mine in my bedrooms.I have Vinyl in my bathrooms and laundry room and hardwood in living room and kitchen.I will spot clean if i have to but never shampoo.
But when we sell and build our new house it will have no carpet carpet is so nasty:scared1: .

I've never shampooed our carpet.

I vacuum and spot clean. When the time comes maybe we'll go with Stanley Steemer.

Well that's just kind of rude. I DO take the dog out, every hour. But she's still young and I've had a really hard time housetraining her. That really wasn't called for.

And NOT that I need to justify cleaning my carpets  but they were in a mess from the time I moved in thanks to the previous owners and I haven't been able to afford to replace them.
