How often do you get a new computer???

I've had mine at home for 5+ years and it is so slow. Just got a new one at work and compared to mine at home it is lightening speed (even on dial up).

So how often do you upgrade????

Well, it depends on what comes in the house.

My DH sells laptops and PC's on Ebay, so sometimes we have to "test" the machines.. and they wind up staying.

But the "test" machines don't last long.. they get sold. So our desktop is actually a few years old. We get newer "temporary" machines all the time.

Every couple of years or so, one of us gets a new one.

I got my g4 almost 5 years ago, then I got an ibook a year and a half ago. I still use both of them, though, and they both run well.

Being a gamer I tend to upgrade my system in some way at least once a year, however, assuming you are not a gamer, a new system every 3 years should be good enough.

3 years ago the top of the line Pentium processor was the P4 1.7 GHz. That is what my wife is using on her computer now and she is more than happy with it.

If you buy a relatively new system now you will be good for 3 to 4 years with only minor upgrades required.

We get a new one when the old one is so slow you can't access the internet anymore. Had one for 6 years. Got this one about 2 years ago.

My desktop downstairs is a 475 AMD and slower than all get out! Last year for my bday, DH told me to order a new one. I now have a Dell 5100 laptop. It is lightning fast with the cable modem! 2.6 gh and 512 DDR-Ram. As long as this one stays healthy I can't foresee getting a new one for a long time!

Ours is about 2 years old. DH is getting a nice new laptop, but he can only do business related stuff on it. Its the top of the line. Thank you uncle sam. He has to do work at home and believe me, they do check it.

Well, we've only been married 2 years, so not long enough to have anything that needs truly replacing. Dh's computer coming in is on it's last legs, but we can't afford to replace it yet because we purchased a laptop instead a few months ago.

Once the laptop is paid off, we will replace his desktop. We like having one of each.

So my answer... when it croaks, or becomes so extremely slow and obsolete that it's not worth anything.

I seem to replace my computers ever 3 years or so. This laptop is about 1.5 years old though and a part of me wants to replace it with something a bit better.

We upgrade ALL THE TIME! DH is always upgrading his, so I get his old stuff, which is still way ahead of stuff most my friends have! LOL
