When my washer and dryer were in the basement, I did laundry 1X per week. It was too inconvenient to carry everything up and down 2 flights of stairs and then to remember to move wash from one machine to the other.

Now, I have the W/D on the 2nd floor. It is so convenient to throw a load in whenever and to dry it when I'm passing by the room again. So, when the washer is full, it gets run. Usually, we throw darks into the washer until it's full and whites stay in a basket until it's full and then they get run in between loads of darks.

I refuse to carry loads up and down the steps -- that's what I have teenagers for. :teeth: It's my DD's responsibility to take care of gathering up the laundry. And I have big shelving units in the basement where I put the folded clothes. The goal was to fold them and have each person take up their own clothes, but we all sort of got used to the shelves and that's just where we keep our clothes. :sad2: We're all guilty of it, though, so I can't really complain.

I'm trying to convince DH to put a laundry room upstairs. We have a *perfect* room for it. It's just the right size, plus we're putting tile flooring in and it has a nice big closet. It's just off the downstairs bathroom. He likes that room as a computer room. I think this is a battle that I will win in the end. ;)

I also have a family of 5, however I do my laundry on the weekends. We have a front loader so it only takes me a few loads to get the whole week's worth of clothes and sheets/towels done.

I do something every day.

When the first left for college, I really didn't notice it. But now that the second has left and we've gone from 6 to 4 people, I do. MUCH easier to laundry for four than for six. :teeth:

But I'm still doing laundry almost daily.

Family of 6 and daily. I also cant seen to catch up. There is always a pile on the basement floor and dirty basket in the bedroom. I envy you guys with your washer/dryer on the same floor as the bedrooms.

I did just go out and buy 6 new baskets andI seperate them as the come out of the dryer. I dont hve the patience to fold. This way my teenage and 9yo can bring their own baskets up strait to their rooms to but away.

I only have to do mine once a week - sometimes less..

DD, her DH, and DGD have to do laundry every single day.. I have never seen three people accumulate so much laundry from day to day in my entire life!

i would say on average I have a load working every 5-6 days a week. I really should do a load everyday and then I won't have to do more than one a day and I'd be on top of it.

it's amazing how little effort it takes every day to stay on top of, not just laundry, but just basic cleaning but leave it for a few days and it's a huge feat!!

Since our newest arrival in June it seems to be more often, but there are definitely times when I get too tired and just let it build and build until we can't take it any longer and it has to get done.

I do 2-3 loads a day minimum.

When DS left for college a month ago DD started a Charter School at the same time that has a uniform. Our laundry needs have dropped dramatically. I used to do laundry either all weekend or just about every day. Now, I do a load about every 3-4 days with an extra load of towels & sheets on the weekends. DS's entire weeks worth of clothes fit into a small load.

With DS gone, no more stinky football gear and far less towel consumption since he will not use the same towel twice. I think he is actually doing more laundry at school than we are at home either that or he went and bought himself a few more towels.;) We sent him with 2 bathsheets, hand towels and washcloths.

Only a couple times a week for DH and myself. The kids all do their own laundry now so the washer & dryer does get a lot of use; it's just not me doing it. :cool1:

I had asked DH to move the washer/dryer to the 2nd floor for 12 years, since we bought the house. Two years ago, I was in a really bad car accident and I couldn't do the laundry. DH did it once in the basement and came upstairs to tell me that it was ridiculous to be trudging laundry up and down the stairs all the time. He called the plumber that day and now our laundry is in the computer room on the 2nd floor. The dryer is running now behind me as I type.

I also used my kids as pack animals before the laundry was moved upstairs. Now, I just have to convince my DS that his dresser top is not the place where all clean laundry should live. He has a closet and drawer space that should be used for that. He only puts his things away when I yell, or 1X per week when the pile gets too top heavy.

Personally, I'd rather my kids didn't do laundry as long as they're living at home. It's not rocket science and I know they'll figure it out on their own.

It is amazing how much your laundry needs change when your kids go off to school. DH often helps me with the laundry. I really like that. It's more fun when you have a partner. Sometimes our schedules don't mesh and one of us has to do a load or two alone. We ususally shoot for a load a day...more than that just isn't gonna happen.

Every single day in our house. My Mom swears she has never seen so much laundry in her life! I think the neighbors throw their laundry into our baskets when we are not looking! I have never had no laundry to do. It simply does not happen with 6 people.:cutie: :laundy:

I do at least 2 loads a day...sometimes more. My children do not use a towel more than once. DH and I will use our towels for at least 4 or 5 days.

DMIL used to ask me if I took in strangers laundry because she couldn't believe how much I did. (This coming from a woman who had 9 children and various family members living with her at all times.:lmao: :rotfl2: )
