How often do rooms become available due to cancellations?

We are going to Disney World in a few weeks. We already have a room booked for the 6 of us at the Caribe Royale but noticed that we could stay in a cabin at Ft Wilderness for around the same price. I tried to book last night but the servers were down and now they have no availability. I called and they said all we could hope for is some cancellations. What is the best way to check for cancellations, look at the website evey day or do you have to call? Do they get a lot of cancellations?

What is the cancellation policy on your room at the Caribe?

The biggest bunches of cancellations will be at the 45 day cancel date for packages and the 6 day cancel date for room only. Although cancellations can happen any time, you'll stand the best chance of getting a room at those two times. Since you already have a "backup" room, you have the luxury of trying right up to the last minute, provided you have ample time to cancel the Caribe.

I would monitor online most of the time, but maybe call and look online around those two cancellation periods for the best shot. Good luck! The cabins are a great place to stay.

I would just keep looking on the WDW website and hope for the best, so good luck and I hopefully you will be able to stay at Fort Wilderness.

I agree, just keep watching the website. Cancellations happen all the time, we often snag a room that was previously unavailable. Check early in the day, especially.

Just a quick update, thanks everyone for the replies. I checked the website once a day since posting. On my check this evening, the Cabin at Ft Wilderness came up available and at the current promotional discounted rate! I was able to book exactly what we were looking for. So to all who find themselves in similar positions, keep checking.

Congratulations. Now yo will be on Disney property. A much better choice transportation wise. Have a Magical stay.

We are staying at the Beach Club CL most of our trip but my girls wanted to try Animal Kingdom Lodge. For a few weeks I've been checking for a summer rate room at AKL and none could be found. FINALLY, on Saturday a standard room opened up on at AKL for the night we wanted to stay so I booked it quickly!

So, keep checking online, at different times of the day, cancellations are being made all the time, not just at 45-day, but even this close to our travel date, as this must've been a room only reservation that someone cancelled.

I don't want to scare you..but I suggest you find any resort other than caribe royal...we had a lot of problems with our stay there ...among those things bed bugs in one room and items being stolen from another...it was a horrible stay...I know that these things can happen anywhere but I highly suggest looking into other options...plus we had problems with transportation to the parks - not very reliable...if your renting a car your safe for that one...

The OP already came back and said they switched to the cabins at Fort Wilderness.

Congrats, OP!
