How often are the ships not able to dock at Castaway Cay.

Just curious if anyone has any historic data as to how often the Magic and Wonder have not been able to dock at Castaway Cay. I realize that it is hit or miss. It would however be interesting to see if there has been a trend during certain times of the year or if one ship has a better record of docking than the other.

If anyone is interested in telling me when then cruised, which ship they were on and whether they were able to dock or not I would be happy to compile the data.

I believe I heard only 4-6 times per yr. However we have sailed the past 4 January's and 2 of the 4 missed Castaway Cay. One of those was a 4 day where we missed the 1st day so went to Freeport and then tried again on Sea Day (next day) and were successful. I've also heard of a few times in Nov. being unsuccesful.

When we were on the Magic we were told it docks 50% of the time at Castaway Cay. I've heard others on this board say that number is low, but I'd be interested to hear others people's stories on this. Like, when did you travel and were you able to dock? We've sailed twice in November and were able to dock once.

The percentage for the whole year tends to be 90 percent for successful docking, but that number goes down in the winter months (especially Jan. and Feb.). This seems to be a particularly bad year. We always sail in Jan. and Feb. and haven't missed it yet (not in 29 trips at various times of the year), but on our Jan. 2003 trip I was amazed that Capt. Thord got it in...it took him several tries, but we made it!

just curious... why is it more difficult to dock at Castaway?

We have sailed the Wonder in October, the Magic in January, February, July and August. Have made it to CC all 7 times we have sailed.

Cold fronts (which are most likely in Jan. and Feb.) cause the seas to be rough, and wind also plays a big role. A cold front and rough seas, combined with wind, are what kept us from being able to tender to Grand Cayman on that same trip.

The January 5th Wonder missed on its scheduled day but docked a day later. It was fun watching them attempt to dock (I'm sure it wasn't fun for the crew!)

Now why can't they ever have a problem docking back in Port Canaveral on the last day?

"Sorry folks but we're gonna have to head back out for another day."
:p

To help with your "scientific project";), we cruised on the Wonder December 2001. We were able to dock at CC on Dec. 8 or 9th (?), 2001.

This year on the 1/25/03 Magic, we were also able to dock at CC on 1/31/03 although I know that the previous week, which would have been 1/24/03 the Magic was not able to dock because of wind/rough seas.

Hope this adds to your data.

Forgive my stupidity, but if you can't dock does that then mean you don't get a day at CC?

Brenda....yes, if you can't dock then there is no way to get to CC. The Captain will just sail around making it a sea day.
