How offended are you....

I've had sales associates suggest a different size than what I was trying on. NOT offended at all. I appreciate a second opinion. :thumbsup2

I wouldn't be offended. I know, which brands fit and the size I need. I also don't ask for opinions, especially if the salesperson works on commission. ;)

I used to work in retail. We were instructed to tell people who asked that question and needed a larger size that the brand ran small. This way, their feelings weren't bruised and we could get them the larger size.

In a way, this little white lie had a kernel of truth, because women's jeans brands especially are sized absolutely goofily. :headache:

Is "Goofily" a word?

I wouldn't be offended. But I don't know how anyone wouldn't know their usual size. Providing they are currently wearing clothes. :rotfl:

And, anyway, they asked the question in the first place - why get offended?

I don't think I've ever asked a sales assistant what size they thought I was. I'm a bit confused as to why someone would do that. I just grab 2 of the item - 1 in my size and 1 in the size above. Then I try on the bigger one first. That way you can always say, 'oh, I think I need a size smaller' but rarely need to try on a size bigger than the one you tried on first!

If you are out shopping for jeans and you ask the sales associate for their opinion on what size you are and they say a bigger number that what you expect? OR if say you are trying on the jeans and they suggest to go up a size?
AND I don't mean if they are rude about it. Just say they are not. Are you offended because you don't think your that size? How much honesty do you really want from a sales associate?

Wouldn't bother me in the least but I have never asked that.

Never would even occur to me to ask a sales associate what size I wore, that's why I am there to try them on.
Now, I might ask if they have more of a specific size in the back room though, although I am showing my age there since more and more retailers have no inventory these days other than what is out on display.

And I try on everything before I buy it. I have found rather consistently in jeans that the quality control on sizing is so bad now, that 3 pairs of jeans in the same style and size are not the same fit on me. I frequently walk out with 2 different sizes. This is also why I don't understand how anyone can buy clothing online.

I can not imagine a scenario where I would need or want to ask a sales associate to guess what size I would need. I know 'about' what size I need (if I were trying on something in a totally different and unfamiliar brand I'd probably start by grabbing one of my 'regular' size plus one size bigger and maybe one size smaller). But to ask a sales associate to guess what size just seems completely pointless to me.

Is this a trick question?
There must be a story behind it.
No I would not be offended.

If you ask somebody their opinion, I don't think you should be offended when they respond with an honest answer.

1. Don't ask a question you don't want the answer to.
2. Who asks the salesperson what size they are? Pick your usual size and try it on. Try varous sizes accordingly.

When I go jean shopping I know what general size I am, yes it varies by store but I can still figure it out. I don't ask the salesperson for size help but I would not be offended if I was to ask. Nor would I be offended if they suggested a bigger size, because I really don't want to squeeze into a smaller size than I should be in. lol

We defiantly don't work on commission.

If I were the sales lady, I would want to be honest to the customer. If she/he wants my help, then they need to hear the truth. I can't tell them to go smaller, knowing that they need two size bigger. Vice-versa. I want an honest opinion so I can get the clothes or shoes to fit right. There's a difference between being rude and being helpful. :)

It depends a LOT on how much tact the sales associate uses when responding. When some of my old bras wore out, my husband gently encouraged me to go have an actual bra fitting instead of just grabbing the size that I thought I needed. After the associate measured me, I expressed disappointment that my band size (how big around I am) was a few inches bigger than what I had lead myself to believe for a few years. The associate responded, "I'll bet you will find that our bras will be a LOT more comfortable than the ones you have been buying, though!" I bought a few bras in the new size and yes, they are MUCH more comfortable! :thumbsup2

If I asked, I would not get offended. If a salesperson just randomly walked up to me and handed me jeans in a larger size than I would normally wear, then I would be offended. Lots of people are sensitive about their weight. You have to really be careful not to unintentionally offend someone.

:confused3 ::yes:::thumbsup2 Reminds me of the "do these make my butt look big" remark. Seriously? What woman has no idea what SIZE she is unless she's dumb as dirt. You start from there then make the adjustments, every distributor has different sizes.

Then there are clearly a lot of dumb as dirt women living in my area because I see them all the time wearing terribly ill-fitting much to small clothing.

To answer you question OP, I would not get offended. I hold no illusion that I am petite.

I wouldn't be offended. I doubt the sales associate is going to tweet about your size as soon as you leave.
