On November 4th, 2008 millions of Americans were shocked that a man of Barack Obama's limited experience, extreme liberal positions and radical political alliances could be elected President of the United States. For many of these Americans, the explanation was rather simple... the news media, completely enamored with Obama, simply refused to do their job.

On Election day twelve Obama voters were interviewed extensively right after they voted to learn how the news media impacted their knowledge of what occurred during the campaign. These voters were chosen for their apparent intelligence/verbal abilities and willingness to express their opinions to a large audience........

Amen. The media was enamored with BO from day one. He was their little darling, and still is.:headache:

That's a rather simplistic view. In reality, it was a vast combination of factors. Many political historians were able to look at the election and correctly predict Obama's win based purely on historical factors. For instance, when approval ratings for the incumbent are very low (like they are now), very rarely does the party hang onto the presidential seat. Voters want a change.

There are a multitude of factors that go into a presidential election, trying to boil it down to one factor is not very accurate. I'm sure the media helped his case, but it is not the only reason he was elected.

I didn't click the link but I have a theory on how he got elected.

More people voted for him than the other guy. :thumbsup2

DVCLiz Ditto to your double whammy! My husband graduated from Duke so we have a very interesting basketball season at my house. Luckily, he voted for Obama too so we didn't have too much disagreement before the season even started.

I'm interested... what do the liberal and conversely conservative news agencies have to achieve or gain from supporting one candidate over the other? Surely the law of averages makes it unlikely to be simply that all of the members of said news agencies are politically aligned to the left or right?

Oh please - that is just sour grapes.

I think this "survey" was skewed. They asked questions about Obama's senate run (which was a few years ago), or what Joe Biden did years ago versus what Sarah Palin did in the 8 weeks she was a candidate.

I would guess any survey in which people were asked about current events versus past events would result in the same kind of results.

I heard negative reporting about Obama all campaign :confused3 - in his home town from local newspapers.

What's to discuss? Obama won because he got more votes, both the popular vote and the electoral. Then again, you must be implying that the United States are comprised of uneducated automatons incapable of making any intelligent decisions. You wouldn't be saying that now would you?

Interesting that none of the questions actually addressed the issues that people might be concerned with upon making a voting decision.

Like:
What is Obama's stance on torture?
What is Obama's stance on a woman's right to choose?
What is Obama's tax plan?
What does Obama think about global warming, and what does he intend to do about it?
What is the name of the website that Obama's campaign launched in order to fight the rampant false rumors being circulated by right wing lunatics?

Interesting.

Well said!!:thumbsup2

Dear unhappy 46.2%,

It's time to let it go. Just try and move on. Why not learn a new hobby between now and Inauguration Day. Take the day off on January 20th and go to a movie or have a spa treatment. Play golf. Have a relaxing lunch. There'll be plenty of time to fuss and fume once he's actually in office.

Sincerely,
The celebratory 52.3%

While I agree that the vast majority of the MSM certainly favored Obama in terms of their coverage, I don't think that's why he won the election. I think there were lots of factors, including people wanting a new party in the White House, low approval ratings for Bush, Obama being much more charismatic than McCain, McCain's choice of Palin as VP, etc. Either way, he won fair and square, so now it's time to move on.

You know what? To assume that people chose someone who is not what you wanted because they were STUPID enough to not have their own minds and values is downright insulting.

Maybe it was because you had a lukewarm candidate who was stupid enough to say that the fundamentals of our economy was good a week before it tanked. Or MAYBE because he was a heartbeat away from making a beauty contestant dimwit his successor.

Or MAYBE it was for reasons you will never GET and it had NOTHING to do with the media.

Go back to the drawing board.:surfweb:

That's pretty much what Op is saying.
And to think I spent all that time, energy and money on school, when I could have just watched a couple of episodes of Quincy ME.
Thanks Op, I was pretty much having a boring day at work until this came along and gave every one a good laugh. :rotfl2:

It's cool how diverse we really are .....

while going to Carolina I worked at Dook (Medical Center) and I voted Republican

Nah. Why, stating that the United States of America is comprised by a majority of stupid people is inflammatory!

In fact, I would think saying something like that would get a rise out of everyone, regardless of party affiliation or who one voted for.

Wow. OP, I hope you're ready for some flames from both the Democrats AND the Republicans!

What difference does it make how or why he won.
He is our next president and nothing will change that.
Complaining about how he won is pointless at this point.
BTW I didn't vote for him and I'm not thrilled that he won, but it's over and done with.
