I was not going to share details, but if my message box in vmk gets hit any more I think it might explode. So, many of you asked for me to share. Here it is...
After 8 days not seeing a single host, much less actually winning anything, I got a Dreams pin in the Adventureland Bazaar today. Phinny didn't even enter beyond the doorway, so just told us all that we had pins and there was almost not even enough time to say Thank You before she was gone. (So, yes, if you go afk for even a blink - you could find something in your inventory.) But then completely unbelievable happened:
I was camped out in "my spot" (New Orleans Square NE) where Jegrezo has been for all host sessions. I went on the theory, stay in the exact same spot every time and wait for luck to maybe maybe maybe come to me, instead of searching for luck on the move.
So to be 100% honest, my close vmk friends had all left (real life? huh?) for the afternoon and I was just hanging in my usual spot on half my computer screen while doing work (AH!) on the other half.
Then, I glance over and see Red Ears in the Square. There's Hula. We are all talking to her and she asks us not to move around. Ahhhh.... could it finally be? Did my blue ears find me? Finally? Sure enough - they had. Yay!
And maybe the coolest part of that entire thing was that hdmonkeybug (who already got her ears a week ago) was excited for me! (How did i get sooo lucky to find her?)
OMG, Little Jegrezo (and many others there) got her blue ears!
And then...
Hula says something (and I cant believe I missed the screen shot) along the lines of Jegrezo and Prize and Suite and O-M-G.
hehe, that was MY spot. Breathe..... Breathe..... It's just pixels..... Breathe.... OMG!
And unless I could have all my vmk friends with me at the exact second, nothing could be cooler than the fact that 1 particular person was the first in there with me. Hugs Monkey.
And the weird part that I don't understand is what happened next. The room FILLED with people. Do ppl just search for Castle Suite all day long??? I truly don't get where they all came from. Then the magic spread even further when Hula gave ears to everyone that was now in the room - most of whom I do not know. Yay for the happiness getting spread as far as possible within the rules that are set!
Thanks Fin and Hula for a day to remember in VMK. While it is VERY true that we all know it's just pixels and we can't take it with us, there is a joy from winning that goes beyond the game.
I don't share much about my personal life on the boards, but it's been a rough year in many ways and I am dealing with some huge personal decisions lately that have really been difficult. VMK is my escape, my funville, as I am sure it is for so many of us. I can't explain any better (nor do I really understand) why a silly little room, ears, and a pin can mean so much, but I guess when the real world is truly testing you ability to handle things, it's nice to have an exciting moment like I had today. Thanks Fin and Hula for the smiles (and the adrenaline rush) - both of which go far beyond the pixels. And what could be better than having my closest VMK friend right there when it happened?
Keep Dreaming everyone - it CAN happen to you. (Not so sure I'd sit in New Orleans Square though, at least for the rest of today
