I just don't like all the trash that seems to be at the parks anymore. And like I do in my "normal" life I would pay a premium to avoid it.

I don't think it would even take a 5th gate, just some new attractions. And to be fair they are working on it, however slowly. A big part of the problem right now is that only one park is really worth a full day for most families, while the other parks lack enough attractions to disperse the crowds. Just in the past week I've seen reports of 200 minute waits at Tower of Terror because Rock N Roller Coaster was down, heard Epcot described as "shopping and dining with a hundred dollar cover charge", and read the advice that Animal Kingdom can be done in 3-4 hours. Is it any wonder that wait times are an issue when Studios has only 5 rides and several of Epcot's pavilions are aging and/or standing empty?

I do still enjoy Disney, but we've reached the point where paying more to get less is no longer something we're willing to swallow. I'm glad we had our "Disney phase" when the kids were younger, but now they're getting older there are more alternatives competing for our vacation time and money and Disney just doesn't measure up to other experiences any more. We used to go just because it was where we wanted to go; now we go for specific/special events and take our big family vacations elsewhere.

I agree with you. I just watched this weeks Podcast and they discussed the possibility of a tiered pricing system. I think it's a terrible idea, but I am one of those people that only takes one vacation a year and sometimes not even that. I consider myself fortunate to be able to do that. if they go with this new pricing system people will still go, the hotels will still have plenty of people staying their and I really don't think Disney will give it a second thought, but they are pricing themselves out for a large portion of the population and I think that's a shame. My daughter is 19 and this may very well be our last trip.

Part of me is afraid that this trip will change my view of WDW and that it will no longer hold that place in my heart that it did. But times change and we can either change with them or get left behind.

People have always been able to pay a premium and hire a guide CM at the parks to take them through lines, etc. I think it is something like $300 per hour?

Over the last few years it seems that trashier people have started to takeover the parks. These are the loud and obnoxious people that do as they please with no regard to others. They typically make a huge mess, curse in front of children, scream 'Merica at people, etc...

And we typically do that. However, even with the guide we cannot seem to avoid the trash.

There's a very good article by Len Testa on Touring Plans .com.

He does offer some pro-price tiering observations but the general feeling that I get is that he is very much against the plan as it was presented in the survey. I find his breakdown of the cost increase very alarming! A 90% increase over the current gate price for a 9-day ticket when you purchase a "gold" level pass is just insane!

Let me ask this: What percentage of guests do you estimate go to WDW and fly by the seat of their pants rather than plan and schedule every day of their trip?

I'm not sure of the answer but I can tell you this, I feel bad for those that try.
Then again, some people just don't care enough to see everything and they are happy even if they just get on a few rides a day. Others might find waiting in line is a good opportunity to have a snack or relax in the a/c (as most lines are inside).

Index cards? That much organization would stress me out my whole vacation! We pretty much make a couple reservations and then just go with the flow.
The one thing I always hoped they would do is give more of a perk to the deluxe hotels- sort of like what universal does, separate line for their hotel guests. But since Disney has so many hotels I would love to see it limited to the deluxe ones. I would upgrade from my typical moderate hotel if that was the case.

I've been to WDW so many times, that I just don't feel the need to wait in long lines. If the line is ridiculous, I'll try again on my next trip...Life is too short to be waiting in loooong lines to ride a 2 minute attraction...

Thanks for posting this. Just read his article and agree - a 90% increase is insane. More money for less value. Iger is a smart businessman, but he's not a dreamer. Hard to find a combination like Walt and Roy to dream big and finance it.

Funny, the same could be said for people at the other end of the financial spectrum. Those that feel that they have the right to be there becuase they have money and nobody else should be interfering with their trip. Kind of like the people that hired handicapped tour guides to gain front of the line access. Sorry, couldn't help myself.
