I've been a licensed massage therapist for 15 yrs. We weren't allowed to accept tips until we were licensed, back then in Florida. When you go to a spa you are paying top dollar for a massage. I can keep my prices to a reasonable amount since I pay rent for my space and don't split it with anybody. I charge $30 for a half hour, $55 for and hour and $70 for 90 minutes. I get tipped from $5 - $30 plus. I expect nothing and am always gracious when I am tipped. I love what I do and would do it for $8 an hour if it was the only job around. I do charge $20 more for a hot stone massage because it is a lot of set up and clean up. Is she going to give you a hot stone massage at your house? If so, she will have to lug a bunch of extra stuff with her besides the usual table and linens. And it will take time for the stones to heat up... Also, I charge $20 extra for going to someone's house. I'll do four to six massages while there, but the travel charge is still the same... they can split it amongst themselves...Anyhow, if it is legal to tip her I'd tip her $50 for a hot stone massage at your house. She's probably happy to get the experience and may fumble around a little getting situated. It won't be the same as if she had a lot of experience, but a day with a massage is better than a day without!!!!

We only paid $55 for a one hour at Disneys Vero Beach! People pay several hundred for them?!

I tip 15%-20% of total cost. I would think $20-$30 would be sufficent in this case. Except if she does the hot rock thingy, since someone else already said its more work and such, then I think $50 would be good.

I think you're pretty safe anywhere from the $20-$50 range, I bet she'll be thrilled with anything and enjoy the practice =)

According to my husband, not as tired as him!!! UGH!! Like I said, I love what I do and have always had a hard time saying 'no'. But these days I have been saying "I'm sorry, I'm already booked today". It's taken some time getting used to it. BTW, my husband is the hardest working man I know, and he's handicapped! It's hard for me to keep up. I guess because I work in a dimly lit room with relaxing music and love my clients, he wins. He's a plumber!! LOL
