How much would you pay for this Mickey Mouse cake? *** Updated pics page 3

Great! It looks like I'm getting a great price.

She is charging me $70 for both cakes. I told her the cake needs to feed 40 people.

I can't remember exactly what the bakery was quoting me, but I know it was over $100 for the Mickey cake & $8 for the smash cake.

However, like I said, it is not going to be all Fondant like the picture. So, I'm sure it will look much different than the picture. She told me she could use all Fondant, but the cost would go up.

I told her i'm not real picky. I just want a cute Mickey cake. Plus, she's local and a good friend of my Mom's cousin. So, I figure I'm helping her business out too. That picture was just to give her an idea. I saw some of her cakes on her website and it looks like she does a great job, so I'm not worried.

I'll definitely post pics once it's complete. The party is not until the 22nd so I'll come back and post some pictures then.

That's a cute cake. I agree with others that it would have to be mostly fondant to get that look. The smash cake should be buttercream though. It's much more fun that way!

The pic below is my sons birthday cake from about a month ago. The lady we used did a wonderful job! The cake is mainly buttercream only fondant is the mickey heads and the hat. This cake was to feed 45 people, we had over 50 at the party and had over half the cake left. I was charged 85 for this cake...she also wrote his name on the Mickey hat! The cake your getting is really cute!!

A local bakery here would charge at least $175 and it would be mostly fondent. You got a great deal!

I just wanted to say the picture is so cute...I cannot wait to see the finished product. Really hope you will share some pictures.

I have an aunt that decorates cakes...she is in her mid 70's now so she doesn't decorate anything like she used to. She never, ever used fondant...only buttercream and her cakes were WOW! and talk about delicious...everything made from scratch. I think the hard part would be getting the vibrant colors. Of course the it needs to be pretty but the main thing,(to me) is how it taste.

I'm not getting my hopes up b/c I know the cake will not be exactly like that pictured since she is using mostly buttercream. However, I'm hoping it will be better than the sheet cake I would have got from Sams Club or Jewel.

I told her I wasn't picky to just go with what she thinks will look best. The pic was just to give her an idea.

Yes, generally for first birthdays for the baby to dig into. Here is my kiddo and Mickey smash cake. I used a 6" cake pan and cupcakes to make. Made a bigger one with 9" cake pan with 6" pan again for the ears. Cost about $10.

I live in GA and it is traditional here to get a smaller cake for the 1 year old to "SMASH"! I know Publix grocery stores (at least they used to) will give you a smash cake free if you purchased your baby's 1st bday cake from them. I have crazy pictures of my kids eating their first cake. Messy but so cute.

And FWIW, most bakers include the smash cake for free when you order a first birthday cake. Totally budget.

Our local grocery stores give you a small smash cake for free when you buy a first birthday cake. It isn't a big expense.

OK, I'll admit I had no idea what a "smash cake" was. Never heard of it. And I'm from the south so I don't think it's a regional thing around here. Reminds me of the bride and groom smashing cake into each other's faces at a wedding. A tradition I find to be totally demeaning and hostile. But honestly, the thought of paying good money for a cake so a child can smash it. Really?

I'm usually pretty budget friendly (hence I post on here), but I love the smash cake idea. Heck, I already plan on doing on a 1st birthday photo shoot with a smash cake. Yes, I'll be paying for a cake AND a photo shoot Am I kicked off the budget board?
