Looking to make some extra $$ and mentioned to my neighbor that I may clean houses on the side for a little extra $. She said sign me up! She has a 1000 sq ft house. It's just her and her 2 dogs. I would dust, vacuum, clean the bathrooms, etc. No laundry. The house it tity just needs the normal cleaning that she doesn't really have time to do. What do you think I should charge her?

Most people around here charge by the hour not by the house size. I pay $20.00 an hour, which is pretty standard around here. Sometimes I have her do more, sometimes less. On the average it's four hours for me for a 2800SF house.

Call up some cleaning services and get a few prices. I would go lower than the established services. After you have become established and build a nice client base, then you could bump up your prices.

Good Luck.

When I was doing "light" cleaning - dusting, vacuuming, sweeping/mopping, bathrooms it was $25 an hour. Cleaning products & accessories all provided by the owner - I did have a little tote I would carry just in case though. When the regular cleaning also included making beds (in 3 rooms) it cost an additional $5 for that date.

Most times it only takes less than 2 hours to do this type of cleaning. So I would get at least 2 hours pay ($50).

For my two bedroom, one and a 1/2 bath, kitchen, DR and LR, I pay $48 each time.

We have a 4 bedroom 2 1/2 bath house - LR/DR/FP. We have a Polish couple that cleans. THey do everything (except I make our beds!) and they charge $60.00. It takes them about two hours. I have hardwood floors in entry way, kitchen, breakfast room and upstairs hallway. I think that takes more time then just vaccuming. To me they are very reasonable! I do provide the cleaning products though.

I would charge $1,000,000 because I HATE to clean! :lmao:

I used to clean for my neighbor and I charged her $10.00 per hr. and her house was HUGE. I had to clean her room, bathroom, DD's room, bathroom, 3 living areas, and kitchen, this also included dusting, vacuuming, and mopping.

I was normally over there for about 4 hours or so, and the first time I told her it would be $40.00, she told me her last cleaning lady only charged her $25.00 for the week, and I told her that was my price and I was not doing it any cheaper, and I cleaned it maybe 3 more times after that on and off and then they moved!!

To have your house cleaned here in North Central NJ is sooo expensive. All of my friend and neighbors with houses that are approximately 2500 SF are paying $125 each time. A friend of mine lives West NJ with a 3000 sf and pays $100 which is considered cheap. This is why I clean my own house. I just think that I have all this extra money for another Disney trip!

I just had someone out to my house today to give me a quote. My house is maybe 2300 sq.ft. and she quoted $60. She will supply all the cleaning supplies. The other quote I recieved was $65, so that seems to be the going rate in Cincinnati. I've heard that the chain services are much more.

I think $20 or $25 an hour sounds fair.
A young woman just starting her business in town here stated that she charges $45 an hour and I just had to laugh at that.. I have no idea what the going rate is, but that seems exorbitant, especially since it's not an established business.

I used to live in about the exact same size house you described and have a dog and cat. It would take me about 2 hours to clean that house with a normal cleaning. My first thought was that $50/per cleaning would be about reasonable.
