How much would this house cost where you live?

285-350K and thats a maybe figure. Depending on the locale, square footage and school system.

Better school system, higher price maybe into the 400's.

Not WV -- SW PA. :)

We put our similar house (smaller lot, rightnext to neighbors) on the market last spring, asked $76,000 and got $76,000 within 3 days of putting out our FSBO sign. We're only 15 minutes east of Pittsburgh, so I do not find the cost of "your" house shocking at all.
Even our newly constructed house didn't cost as much as some of the posters on this topic have said that house would go for in their markets. I worried needlessly about a 1,400/mo house payment (we had been $650), so I really don't know how I would handle double or triple that.
This is why I'll try really hard to stay in Pittsburgh! Plus the football team is pretty good too! :thumbsup2

Probably 200K. Depending on the overall condition.

Probably $600,000-1.7 Mill but there are no houses here that are 101 years old:) I am just going by size, etc..

How do all of you afford houses that cost sooo much? If housing prices reflect salaries in the area you must be making some serious $$$ :thumbsup2 . Just wondering.

Not as much as you'd think. Average home cost here in RI is 280,000 (I believe it's somewhere in the 300's in MA) and that is roughly 4-5 times the median household income. 14% of people in RI spend half their monthly income on rent/mortgage.

Where we live it would cost around 175.000 to 225.00 depending on the location. Most new homes being built here are around 300.000 to 400.000 with around 4,500 sq foot. Older homes are few and far between. We sold our 40 year old home for 110.000 this year and it had 1800 sq feet, but needed to be updated.

Wow. I didn't read the responses before I posted so it wouldn't influence me. I have GOT to move!!!

We don't afford them actually.....

My DH and I sold our first house in Central PA for the same amount we bought it for 5 years prior. ($60K) Values just didn't increase in our neck of the woods.

So here in MD we did not have a sales profit to use as a down payment.

My husband and i both work full time making OK money. ($80-90k combined yearly) But it takes pretty much my whole salary for our mortgage and that's typical around here.

Sure some of you are going to say don't spend more than 20% blah, blah, blah... However, in MD/N. VA area, that's just not possible unless you make an insane amount of money or made a hefty profit on your last house and were able to pay down your current mortgage or you've been here over ten years already.

pooh4evr, I had to laugh at your signature! My dad is from St. Louis and my Grandma and tons of my relatives still live there. Not only do you drive route farty far, but when you make your entrance into this world you're barn. If you're barn with 3 heads you're barn defarmed. You also eat with farks. This just made me think of my dear Aunt Mary! :goodvibes

Well, DH's mom's house was about the same age as that. 1/2 the size (3 bedrooms, 1 bath). Looked like that house, actually. In the butt crack of St. Paul - really crappy neighborhood. Sold in 2001 for $214K. Just looked on a realty website and a similar house (to MIL's) on the same street is going for $300K right now.

So, double that size, take it out of St. Paul, give it a little more land. I am guessing around $650 - $700K.

My little 2br, 1 bath house would go for $250K+ right now. Bought in 2004 for $165K.

I was wondering that too! Last night, out of curiosity, I went on monster.com to look up salary comparisons, and my DH is making a very good salary compared to other areas. For example, he's only making about $20-50K less than he would in the same position in LA, but housing prices there are out-of-this world.

Depending on specific location, 900,000-1,500,000 (Santa Clara vs. Los Altos/Saratoga/Los Gatos)

On the island $600-$1million or more pending lot location.

On the mainlaind $200,000-$1 million depending on location.

We dont' have any 101 year old homes though.

We live on the Space Coast in Florida.

T&B, I have no idea the acres. Nobody in my town ever measures by acres -- they just do that in the country.

There's a good amount of yard between it and the house on the left side of the picture, and as you can see it's on a corner lot. Personally, if I bought it, I'd tear down the small garage behind it and just put in a paved driveway. The yard behind the house is really nice sized. You can see a bit of a house behind it. That house is on the other corner of that half-block, right next to an alley.

Is it on a busy street?

Even small single family houses around here with one car garages are going for several thousand dollars and those are the houses that need work. It's gotten out of hand and I don't know how people afford it. I would think 500K since it's a decent lot unless the house needs a lot of work. The one car garage would reduce the price a lot--like I think I mentioned before, people expect a 2 car garage with a house that size, but not all houses have it.

Have you looked at the inside of the house? :teeth:

Well, here in Celebration, Florida, just so you can hear Illuminations every night at 9:07 PM and then Wishes at 10 from your front porch, like clockwork, it'll cost you a minimum of $1.2m if you want 6 bedrooms. If you don't need that many bedrooms, you can probably pick up a bargain single family for a shade under a half a million. Then there's the tax bill! Gulp. Where my fiance is from (Western New York), you can buy a darned nice house for $150k. He was in shock when we started looking here. I was used to it because I just moved up from South Florida near Fort Lauderdale. Now that's a joke...I cannot believe people want to live there for those prices. Yuk.
