How much weight did YOU gain?

I read on one of these threads that the average cruise passenger gains 1-2 pounds a day on a cruise. Yikes! I've lost almost 35 pounds since January, and I had already mentally prepared myself to gain back about 5 pounds on our May Alaska cruise, but 7-14?! :(

I do plan to use the fitness center most days to try to stave off a few of those pounds, but I was really looking forward to splurging on all that yummy food (and those Mickey bars ...). After reading that figure, I'm afraid I'm going to feel guilty about every bite I put in my mouth.

I would love to know if the 1-2 pounds/day is accurate in your experience.

First, congratulations on your weight loss!! That's awesome!

I think that on our last cruise, I gained about 3-4lbs., total, on an 11 day, in the Mediterranean. Now, this is a very port intensive cruise and we did a ton of walking everyday while in ports (8 days of ports). Walked all around Rome, Pisa, Mt. Vesuvius, etc., etc. So, I feel that I balanced out a lot of what I gorged myself on in the dining rooms. Definitely did not watch my intake because, hey, I was on a cruise and I was going to thoroughly enjoy myself! :thumbsup2 I do understand your concern. I, too, lost about 35 lbs. before that cruise and didn't want to see a major uptick afterwards. One thing I found was that after losing that much weight I felt fuller sooner than I did prior to losing the weight, so maybe I didn't eat quite as much as I thought? :confused3

Great plan to go to the fitness center while there and remember, just stay active! Have a great time - don't sweat the slight weight gain you might have. Be disciplined afterwards and it should come back off :goodvibes

Hi! I gained 4 pounds on my 4-night Dream cruise and I did go to the gym twice. Hubby gained 8, but lost 4 the first day back home, my mom who also came along gained between 8-10 and has lost some already too

Not a pound on any of our cruises.... I think because we are super active on the ship... I even had dessert with lunch and dinner everyday.... Our 10 day Mediterrean I lost a couple lbs mainly due to a ton of waking on the excursions. Congrats on weightloss! :thumbsup2

On our Oasis cruise last March I gained 7lb but we really enjoyed ourselves and we were sedative compared to at home.

I have just lost my last 10lbs and I am actually at the weight that it says on my license when I wasd 16.:cool1:

So with that being said, I am determined to enjoy all my Disney food, but I will exercise every morning and maybe do a spin class 1 or 2x. Hoping to only gain 2-3lbs.

We didn't gain any weight on the Magic, either. Eat whatever you want, but practice portion control. The fitness centers are gorgeous, so it's a lovely place to work out. Take the stairs, not the elevator, and walk briskly to get where you're going on your excursions whenever you can (we walked nearly five miles from the port to the southernmost point of Key West and back). It's difficult to find loungers around the pool anyway, so spend some time playing with the kids in the water. Dance the night away in the clubs; the family dance party was a blast! Stay active and don't stuff yourself, and you can keep the weight gain to a minimum without feeling deprived. :thumbsup2

I'm a big guy- not huge, but big- and had dropped about 40 pounds over the year before our cruise last year. I had prepared myself to gain about 8 over the 4 day cruise on the Dream- ended up gaining 12 but did no exercise, etc. This year I plan on hitting the gym on 2 or 3 days. BTW, most of the 12 came off within a couple of weeks. Need to enjoy myself on the ships!

Since March of 2011, to our cruise April 15th 2012 (week long) I had lost 70lbs. I felt awesome on the cruise. I also went in knowing that I would gain weight. I missed donughts so I promised myself I would have one every morning. Well... I went overboard... I had soda every night, chicken strips, fries, and unlimited Ice cream, and when I couldn't decide on a dessert at night... I ordered 2! Then the choc covered strawberries... I knew what I was doing, but I also went to the gym on the boat, and knew I was coming home and going back to reality. So I knew this was only my life for the week. I didn't weigh myself the day before I stepped on the boat, it was about 4 days prior as we spent a day in the park before cruising. When I got home, I had gained 9.7lbs. I was in absoulte shock, as I knew my work outs were great, and all the times I ran from deck 2 to 9 by stairs. I did however notice that I felt swollen. Now that I've been home for a week and to the gym to weigh in on their scale, I have dropped 7 of those lbs! I've been home for 1 week and 2 days!!! As I started drinking water here at home, I'm not retaining as much as I did on the boat!
My point. You are on vacation. Splurge. But make sure that you have the mind set to get back on track when you get home! I'm sure your family will help you as well, but make it known to them that while you are on vacation you don't want to hear a word about what you are or aren't doing! When you get home thats when they can speak up.
Have a wonderful vacation!

On our cruises I have been weight neutral or lost a tiny bit.

Doing some active excursions, doing a bit of walking helps. Another tip is to try a no elevator policy and take the stairs exclusively.

I have tried to eat healthy breakfasts. In my case they would serve me an egg white veggie omelette every morning. My lunches were on the light side. Dinner I enjoyed but tried not to stuff myself. The only meals I really felt like I gorged were Palo brunch and dinner, leaving sorta 'sick full'

I am now trying, struggling to lose weight before summer - getting harder every year it seems

i gained about 5 on our 5 day dream bahamas, so yeah I guess that is about accurate. We just returned on Sunday :) I ate everything I wanted and did not think twice about it while on board. I knew I didn't want to feel guilty about it, and so I put it out of my mind and told myself I would enjoy all that money and food to the fullest, and worry about a few lbs when I returned! I've already lost 1-2 of it :) So, I say just enjoy yourself!!!! :)

I lost weight on every cruise I have been on, and I eat all the food at each meal - sometimes asking for seconds!

It is easy. First, I spend a lot more time walking than normal. I take the stairs instead of the elevator, except when I have luggage or am dressed formally. I also go to the first floor and walk up all the stairs to the top deck twice daily. And I don't have a fourth or fifth meal courtesy of room service or on-deck restaurants. If I am hungry between meals I just have fresh fruit - except for two cheese & fruit platters and two Mickey Bars per cruise.

I also hit the gym on sea days - which will be all but one day on an Alaska cruise since we only have mornings in port except for Ketchikan. Add pool time with the kids and spending most of the day walking from one activity to another and I easily lose weight.

I gained 4 pounds, and my husband gained 6 pounds. That was on a week-long Wonder cruise in early March. We took the stairs all the time, except for the couple fancy nights I wore high heels. Other than that, we didn't exercise at all. I drank a ton of soda and had dessert with pretty much every meal. Husband lost his 6 pounds in about two days. I just finished working mine off!

I gained 6lbs but we were onboard for 19 nights in the Med and we ate whatever we felt like which wasn't always that healthy (to put it in context I had lost 38lbs in the year and a bit prior to the cruise!)

I gained 7 lbs or so on our 7-night Magic cruise last year, but it was pretty much gone that next week. I think some of the way meals are prepped led to a bit of water weight gain for me. I took the stairs almost everywhere (unless I was carrying a sleeping girl!). I ate what I wanted, but didn't overeat. I think I only finished maybe one or two dishes the entire cruise, but ate what I wanted of each.

This time I am going to walk more...probably on deck 4!

DH, MIL and I each gained 6 pounds on our recent 5-day Magic sailing. And I would also include the day before, with the airport food and Hyatt meals, so 6 nights of food = 6 extra pounds!

Our first cruise in 2003 I gained a few pounds. The first couple cruises I felt that I had to clean my plate at dinner and with so many courses, that was a lot more food than I usually eat...and we don't have desert every night. I then made a point to not finish everything at dinner. I stay away from the lunch buffet and have a wrap and fresh fruit instead. I haven't gained weight on the last 6 cruises, including the 15-night PC repo. I was initially worried about that one!

I have gained 7 lbs on a couple cruises. And just a few on the med cruises. The waiters will try to encourage you to order food items you pass up. So be prepared to be firm. My kids are already mad because I told them we will not be getting the bread basket. I have found the sugar free desserts are not tasty.

Congratulations!! :cool1:

On the last cruise, I did not gain any weight. I allowed myself to try everything, but made a rule not to finish everything. I did this more so I wouldn't have that awful so full I can't move feeling. It actually worked out very well. Well, it worked for everything but Palo as I finished the sea bass and the chocolate soufflé :rotfl2:

also, i don't know about others, but our head server always encouraged us to finish our plates, and if we had a hard time deciding on a meal, he was like, I will bring you BOTH! Same happened with desserts, so we actually ate a LOT more than we normally would have because he was so pushy with food LOL but honestly we did not mind, we lived it up on board!:cool1:
