How much was your budget trip to Disney came to? (If you don't mind sharing.) What did you do different on your budget trip? Can you share any tips on where or how I can save money? Thank you so much.

My budget for 3 adults (2 kids 14 & 10 but count as adults in Disney) for 10 days, 9 nights, including airfare, car rental, accommodations & tickets is $2,900 (from Denver, CO). Thanks to the Dis I was able to save $700 on airfare!!

We are staying @ Bonnet Creek in a 2 bedroom, doing the Water Park Fun and More ticket for 7 days and airfare RT from Denver. I am budgeting an additional $1,000 for food & incidentals. Grand total for 3 adults for 10 days is $4,000.

I would suggest checking airfare often (daily) and value Disney accommodations or non-Disney Accommodations to save $. We were going to stay at AoA standard room for $400 MORE than it cost to stay in a room with 1300+ sq ft. By getting a room with a full kitchen, we are able to save a TON of $ on food (and eat healthier) and bottled water too. There are many ways to save $ on Disney vacations, you just have to be flexible and thrifty. Best of luck!

We are a family of 6 (4 Disney adults and 2 kids). We are going in August for 10 days.
My upcoming budget trip breaks down like this:

Air fare $168 (thanks to the southwest visa offer )
Minivan $408 (hoping to get this cheaper but will be happy with this price)
2 BR condo at Windsor Hills $836.20
7 day water park & more hoppers $1294.86 (through the YES program)
7 days of parking $98
Total before food and souvies is $2805.06
I've been buying Disney Gift cards at our local Krogers and have over $400 so far. (and have been getting discounted gasoline!) I'm hoping to have at least $700 to take with us to cover food while at the parks. Then plan on eating off site for the rest. So our grand total shouldn't go over $4000. Very, very happy with this for 10 days and 6 people. All thanks to the DIS .

You mean how much do we spend for a Disney vacation?

YES tickets- $700-$900 depending on number of days
Gas- $300
Condo- $250 seven nights 2 bedroom off-site
Food- regular grocery budget plus about $200
Parking- $100 or shuttle for free

We r 2 adults and our 5 year old triplets. Now I will say that this is kind of a blow out for us because it's our children's first time to WDW, first time on plane, etc. so we are kind of going crazy. We are going for 9 Days and 8 Nights staying at the Sheraton Visitana in a 2 bedroom Condo. We r only going to the parks 5 days.

Airfare: $1200
Condo: $1200
Park Tickets: $1300
Rental Car Minivan: $250
BBB and Pirate: $250
Food, Drinks, Souveniers: $2000 in what we have budgeted.

Total: $6200

My best trip ever was $1600 all inclusive (food, tickets, plane) for DH, myself and DD. It was like this:

Tickets for DH & I $500 (DD was 1 or 2).
Free Dining = Free (before you had to pay for tips).
Plane tickets for all three of us = 500. I read the fine print on the fare information and it said that infant fares were half of the regular rate. So, DD's ticket was only half price. :)
Value Resort = $600

We were there a week, but it was 2007 so things were cheaper!

2 adults and 2 kids
POR Royal Guest Room 7nights/8days DxDP and 7 day WP&more tix $3535 (free dining) :yay:
Plane tix for 5(my other DD is staying with my parents in another room) $790(3 free with SW cc offer
souviners/incidentals:$1000
Total$5300

The current trip is going to be my best budget trip.

Camping at FW with 5 day tickets 832.
Gas round trip 400. +/- depending on prices then
Total so far is 1232. +/-

Food is already in my pantry 0
No new camping things needed 0
Received 300. in Disney Gift Cards for Birthday and Christmas, for shopping 0

I was able to rent a car from MCO for just a couple days and return it to either the dophin or the car care center. The rental car was about $50 through alamo using coupon codes. Try playing around with dates if you are still flexible.
Returning to the Dolphin was very easy and hassle free.

We bought soda, milk water and wine at the Hess's store. Also some food for the room.

We did not do the dining plan, and had a few meals offsite when we had the car. At disney, I had 2 RFC giftcards that we. used. We also ate at Kimonos with a rest, com certificate, but they are still pricey.

We went mostly for me to go to the spa and hang out at the pool.
We only went to a park one day, and to universal one day.

There are a lot of activities at some of the resorts. Try to look for a resort that has activities that would appeal to your children.
For instance, fort wilderness has archery. If you would stay at a standard room at the WL, you would have access to FW, boat and bike rentals, And by taking the boat over to the contemporary, all the activities at the monorail resorts.

I remember your trip report from POFQ , Fantasia. I hope that you and your children are well and you enjoy your upcoming trip.

I did not total everything up yet, but I think my son and I spent less than $1000.00 for five days using gift cards and two universal tickets I had gotten from credit card rewards, excluding airfare.

Airfare for 5 and an infant: $1073
4 day military tickets w/ WP: $690
2br condo/7 nights: $400
Stroller rental: $65

$2,503

Another $800 for food, gas, and incidentals. $3,303 total for the family trip.

DH, DS1 and I are arriving two days before the other two. Staying at POFQ on dining plan, no additional tickets. Just using a WP admission, a dinner at Narcoossee's, and DTD. Right at $500 package cost, plus the $100 or so we will spend OOP.

So $3,900 all-in for 9/7 days.

I don't have exact dollar amounts but those probably would not help you anyway, since your vacation and mine would be very different based on family size, the ages of the children and how long you stay in Disney. So instead, I'll offer some advice that has helped me to keep costs down.

Breakdown your trip into various budget line items. The simplest would be:
  • Transportation
  • Accommodations
  • Tickets
  • Food
  • Misc. Spending

Then ask yourself how you can do each of those in the cheapest way. For instance, you might be able to get offsite accommodations cheaply, but then you would have to add the cost of a rental car or other transportation from the airport if you fly. Or you probably won't have a kitchen if you stay onsite, so the cost of food will be higher. So, don't neglect to take how each of those line item decisions will affect the others into consideration.

After that, look into ways that you can fund each of those expenses.
For me, the transportation (airfare and rental car) is pretty much taken care of by credit card rewards.
For accommodations, I have begun renting DVC points from the people I know, mostly because I prefer onsite and also because all the kids are over 18 now and that's an "extra adult" charge that can really inflate the cost of a room at Disney. DVC does not care how many occupants are adults as long as you don't exceed the room capacity.
For tickets, I have been using up my non-expiring 10-day hoppers but I have also purchased discounted tickets at Undercovertourist.com by going thru the Mousesavers newsletter link. I buy the ticket with the biggest discount and then use it once before going to guest services at Disney to upgrade it to what I need. Disney will only charge the difference between the gate prices for the two tickets if you have used the UT ticket at least once and you upgrade within 14 days. My brother works for Sieman's (sponsors of Spaceship Earth) and he gets tickets at a really deep discount thru them. So you might also want to check with your human resources department to see if they sell Disney tickets. He was able to upgrade those tickets to APs with the DVC discount last November. He's going back for 4 weeks this summer on those same APs.

When it comes to food, there are several ways to save.
You can make a quick breakfast in your room.
Grocery services will deliver anything you want to have and you can carry a small cooler into the parks with your lunches and snacks.
  • You can buy the Tables in Wonderland card if you own DVC, have an AP or are a Florida resident and get a 20% discount on table service meals and some resort counter service.
  • Restaurant.com often features gift certificates for House of Blues and Swan/Dolphin restaurants.
  • Check Groupon and similar websites for Orlando eateries if you're staying offsite.
  • Join rewards websites like Mypoints to earn restaurant gift cards to be used when you go on vacation.
  • Sign up for restaurant rewards programs like the Landry's Select Club (Rainforest Cafe, Yak & Yeti, T-Rex) and get rewarded during your birthday month and special extras like free appetizers or desserts with your meal.
  • Share counter service meals if you have light appetites.
  • Bring a sports water bottle and ask for a cup of ice at your meals so that you can refill the bottle. The ice melts over time, your water stays cold and you spend nothing for it. If the taste is of Disney water offensive to you, use filtered bottles like the Brita bottle.

My misc. spending is covered by whatever is in my change jar. I save all of my change and $1 bills. I can accrue quite a bit of cash over the course of time. It also keeps me from overspending in Disney. If I don't have the money saved, then I don't spend it on "misc.". You can also ask anyone who gifts the kids for their birthdays to give them Disney gift cards so that they can buy souvenirs on their trip.

Just remember that you always need an emergency backup fund when you're traveling...especially when you're with kids. I never go away without some spare cash and at least one credit card to cover unexpected costs like being stranded at the airport or a child needing medical attention.

Good luck with you're planning. I hope your budget trip comes together. You might want to check the 1 Year to SAVE!!! thread to see how others are funding their trips.

I'm thinking of driving and bring some instant breakfast (dry goods) and have breakfast in the room. We may have another person come with us, so it's either two rooms at the ASMovies or the POR which sleeps 5. Staying off-site sounds very tempting, but I need the continues Disney bus transportation and the EMH.

We will probably only stay for 5 nights and purchase 3 day park hopper. We will probably do only 2 or 3 table service and the rest we will be counter service either at the park or at the food court at the resort. We may even eat off-site to save some money.

Since we've been in Disney many times, we don't need a lot of souvenirs. I will probably only give the children $50 each of Disney gift card.

I will definitely buy the resort refillable mugs, to save money on pop and this would be a nice souvenir. :)

Our next trip, in October, will probably be our best budget trip. We usually stay onsite, but are staying offsite as DH wants more space.

Bonnet Creek--$833
YES tickets--$942
Parking--$112
Total.....$1887

We have gift cards, rewards cards that will go towards our food. The only one I have actually purchased is a $50 Disney Gift Card...the rest I did surveys or bought with points on Disney Movie Rewards and our Disney Visa rewards. We will also need gas for the way down and back (flying is too expensive anymore for us)

Great information.. Great tips and suggestions!! Thank you for being thorough. :) I will definitely will check out that link. We're not a DVC member. I'm going to skip renting points. We are not an AP holder.

I may still have our old spray/fan bottles from our previous trip, so we can re-use it instead of purchasing new ones. Yes, we will bring a water bottle so we don't have to pay at the park and will ask for ice.

We're going as a family of 8 in July for 10 days. Here's where we are so far:

Airfare: $0 (we all got Southwest Visa cards and are flying for free)
5 bedroom pool house in Indian Creek: $1060
3 rental cars: $534 (at current reservation rates...this might go down)
6 day hoppers for 6 adults and 1 kids (1 under 3): $2163 (may go up if we add days)
6 days parking for 3 cars: $252

So without food, we're at
$4009 ....for 8 people!!!!!

Food's going to be high, but that's because we're choosing to do whatever we want on that end since we've done so well with the rest of the trip. Our kids are 4 and 2 and love characters, so we're doing a bunch of character meals, which will bring our total way up, but that's the thing we're choosing to spend the money on this trip.

Our best budget trip was the one we just cam back from, it was DL though...I thought I did very well...it is in Canadian dollars...(total would be smaller if I used American :lmao:)

Flight for 4- 740
Hotel for 10 nights-728
Disney passes- FREE (airmiles) 7 day hopper
Universal passes-FREE (airmiles)
Transportation( to malls, to and from airport, universal and knotts)-350
Medieval feast-65 (only 2 went)
Knotts soak city-100

Under 2000 for 10 nights....I didn't included food and spending because that can be whatever you make it...we did very well on food, the portions anywhere around DL are huge, we could meal share sometimes with food left over :cool1:...we took crazy amounts of spending money and I cam home home with a lot of food and spending money leftover....we spent so little on this trip I wanna start planning our next one...:thumbsup2....

My biggest way to save money on a trip is food! Portions are big, share when u can...and most meals, we had water to drink...add pop/ juice into meals for everyone and we would have been looking at at least another 20 dollars a day...

My husband and I are going this September without the kids for our 17th anniversary. The break down of our budget is:
September 10-16 2012
$500 tickets with Park Hopper W/ military discount
$457 Pop Century Resort W/military discount
$57 Not so scary Halloween Party W/military discount
$240 La Nouba cat 2 seats (not sure if there is a mil discount yet)
$150 gas (we live in lower Alabama)
$500 food (we always share meals)

Spending money we will have about $3000, but we may use $500. We don't really buy anything at Disney, we just love being there! :yay:
