How Much Vacation Time Do You Get?

Hubby gets 3 weeks of actual vacation weeks, one week in October which is when his company takes inventory (so no one works), a week at Thanksgiving, the week of Christmas, and the week of New Year. I am currently not working, so I have a lot of vacation at the moment!! :cheer2:

We usually take five weeks vacation per year. We love DVC and usually spend 2-3 weeks in Disney/Florida.

Wow...we are all over the board here!

I get 10 vacation days and 10 sick days per year.

There are also 10 "holidays"....but I work for a police department and work most holidays...are not allowed to accrue these...must take the overtime pay...would much rather accrue the time...but no can do.

Overtime worked is allowed to be accrued at time and a half as comp time.

There are 6 of us....only one person allowed to be off at any one time.

Some of you out there have really good vacation plans...maybe I need to change career paths :)

I get 4 weeks a year vacation time plus 10 sick days plus 10 personal days, so I get a little over 6 weeks a year. I have to use them all or I lose them, no carry-overs.

I receive 32 days per year. This is combined vacation/sick time. We are required to take 16 days off per year or lose the time. (Such a burden!!)

We also have approximately 12 paid Holidays per year.

Fortunately, I am 'the boss'. So, for as long as I can keep operations running acceptably, I can take as much time as I like. Historically, that is roughly 2 1/2 months per year.

Yes, I do count my blessings. :)

Unfortunately, I am 'the boss' as well, so I can't take off for any actual vacations. I usually bring my laptop with me, and get up early in the morning so I can work for about 4 hours - go out and play during the day, and put in another hour or two on the computer before going to bed at night. By doing this, I'm able to take short 4 or 5 day get away trip every couple of months.

And yes - I count my blessings as well ;)

I have three weeks (starts the first year of employment for all salaried level folks) and will have four either at my 11th year (in 3 years) or if I move up a band.

We also have floating holidays - we are only closed on major holidays so we get floaters for the minor ones. This year we have 6 floaters, last year we had 7. So it's like having another week.

Oh, I also get comp time when I work on the weekends.

I use most vacation to go to Disney. If I stay home, I just don't feel like I've been on vacation.

The rest of the days I use to supplement Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays or to take a day in the summer to do something with the grandkids.

I get 5 weeks a year of vacation and 12 days a year of sick leave. Now the thing with us is at the end of December any hours above 240 hours of vacation gets converted over to sick leave. And sick leave contributes to your longevity as far as retirement. For example, I have 1 year and 5 months of sick leave right now. So when I retire next year with 30 years of service, I will actually have 31 years and 5 months of service, assuming I stay healthy :). So in the past, I've tried to restrict myself to just taking 1-2 weeks of actual vacation to build up my sick leave. This year though the situation is different in that when you use sick leave to extend your longevity it is done in multiples of whole months. And I would not be moving enough from annual to sick this year to get an extra month next year when I retire. So for the first time ever, I'm finding myself having to use all my vacation this year (what a problem to have). That's why I'm able to take a week last week at WDW, a week in July to go to Grand Canyon and a week in August at HH plus alot of time around Christmas. Life is great.

PS - To make all this even more complicated, when I retire next year I will get paid for any untaken vacation, so I want to make sure I'm at my max for accumulated vacation (which I am). So I'll walk away with a nice check for 2 and a half months extra pay to start my retirement off with. Like I said life is great.

10 paid holidays/3 personal days (paid)/10 sick days (paid)

After 10 years with my company, I earn the maximum vacation benefit, which is 4 weeks a year, accrued at the rate of 11.67 hrs a month (I have a 35 hour week).
I never have more than a week in the bank though, I figure, if I can get paid the same as I'm here to be somewhere else - I'd rather be somewhere else! ;)

Not Enough!

I take time off when needed and as long as I get my work done and payroll ready for the guys........

I usually don't take more than a week and a day at one time but this year, with the Repo Cruise, it's 2 1/2 weeks! Boss did say I could never take two weeks off at one time! That's why I made it 2 1/2!

I currently get 20 vacation days (7 years), 2 paid personal days, 6 paid sick days and 11 paid holidays. When I started here, all new employees got 2 weeks after 6 months, and graduated up after that. A year or 2 later, they changed the policy upping everyone to a minimum of 3 weeks to start, going up to 4 in the year of your 6th anniversary, and 5 in the year of your 15th anniversary.

To the earlier poster - I don't believe there is a law that says a company has to pay you for unused vacation time. However, many have adopted that as policy. Some, like mine, actually have an accrual chart so that you "earn" your days per month and you fully earn them at the end of the year. Then you get paid for earned unused vacation days when you leave - but if you took more than you earned, it is deducted from the final paycheck.

Also, regarding OT - there are salary (non-hourly) that do get OT, it is a matter of whether you are classified as exempt or non-exempt. I, for one, am exempt - so no OT pay, but OT work is encouraged and is expected. :confused3 :sad2:

Interesting point. I thought they legally had to pay you for the vacation time that was part of your benefits if you leave and did not for floating holidays that were untaken.

I'm just not sure. I'm mainly skeptical because it seems that companies don't do things in the area of benefits unless they have to or need to in order to remain competitive. Hence, why pay an employee for untaken accrued vacation when they resign from a job?

But, as I said I just don't know and may have been laboring under a misconception.

I'm a stay at home mom so things are pretty flexible with me. Well, depending on your perspective (and my attitude on any given day) it is either "I have no days off whatsoever" or "everyday is a vacation" LOL.

DH gets 12 days vacation, 12 floating days, and 12 days sick per year. I think that on his five year anniversary that goes up to 15 days vacation, but the rest will always stay the same. He works in law enforcement and that schedule is pretty standard around here - negotiating is unheard of since it is all determined by city charters and civil service boards.

We get PTO, which is paid time off. It is done in hours and you can take it anytime you want, in whatever increments you want. I don't remember what we start at, but I get 10.25 hours every 2 weeks. It starts with that number at 20 years. Our sick leave is paid at 70% and I have 6 months. You start after 24 hours of being out sick. If you are really sick and have to be off more, then each year you get 6 more months. It prevents people from being out without real sickness. Who wants to be paid at 70%. Our holidays are included in the PTO. I agree with an earlier post, NOT ENOUGH!!!

DH gets 6 weeks vacation. He also gets 10 personal days that can be used or carried into the next year/years. He also has paid sick time. I am a stay at home mom. We plan to always book our vacations exactly at 11 mos. :sunny:

I currently get 6 hrs of leave ever 2 weeks. Which works out to about 3.9 weeks a year. After 10 years of service I will get 8 hours every 2 weeks. only 5 more years to go. We spend about 2 weeks a year at DVC. This year looks to be 3 weeks though.

Three days at Thanksgiving, two weeks at Christmas, a week in February, a week in April, three days surrounding Easter (unless it falls the third week of April), all of July and August. I also get 5 personal days and 8 sick days.

I wouldn't trade my schedule for anything! I take my salary over twelve months, so getting a paycheck every two weeks in July and August absolutely rocks!

Yes, I am a teacher.

It is a state law issue and the provisions vary.

DH gets three weeks per year and would have a hard time taking all of it and I get none :confused3 That is what you get when you are a fully commissioned loan originator at a mortgage company  Oh well, nobody makes me punch a clock either. I just take off when vacation comes :sunny:

DH and I both get 6 weeks plus holidays and a few personal days. We try to spend 3 weeks at WDW, 2 with the kids and 1 with just the two of us.
