How Much Vacation Do You Get?

and how does it accrue?
DW gets 56 hours a year but also accrues something like 5.6 hour every pay period (2 weeks). Amazing how much vacation time she has going into her 6th year of employment.
 
Never heard of accruing by the hour.

I get 5 weeks plus our holiday closure at the end of the year. Once you take out the stat holidays and weekends the holiday closure is and extra 3-4 days.
 
I get I believe 5 or 6 stats through the year. There are some stats that are kind of but kind of not stats, so instead of us having those days off where its not that big a deal, they instead put them between Xmas and New Years, so we get that time off without having to take any vacation, but we still get paid. Then on top of that, I've been at my current job for about 16 years now, so I'm at 4 1/2 weeks.

And I get 10 sick days per year.

As for how we get them, ours are earned in "real time". I'm not going to bore you with the math because I cant remember it, but for each full day we work, we earn x.x hours of vacation (whatever x.x is). We can log on to the company portal and look at our vacation balance at any time and is current as of the day before.

In my vacation bank, I can only ever have my current years' allotment, plus 15 days. Once I exceed that, I get a lovely note saying "you need to take x days before this date, otherwise those days will be assigned to you as a vacation date of our choosing.

As for sick time, we get 10 days dropped on us every Sept. 1. I can take 5 sick days off in a row without any problem. But on that 6th day if I phone in sick, I will have to bring in doctor's notes.

I don't think there's a limit on sick time we can have banked. I have something like 30 or 40 days and no one has said much about it....
 
I get 5.2 weeks of annual and 2.6 weeks of sick. I'm a Federal employee with 23 years of service. DH gets 5 weeks of PTO as a Fed contractor, but he can do some comp time within a two week pay period. As a Fed employee I accrue 6.4 hours /pay period of annual leave and 3.2 hrs/ ppd of sick because I work 32 hours as opposed to 40 per week. DH accrues his per pay period.
 

Federal employee here, too. I get 208 hours (5 weeks & a day) every year, accruing 8 hours every 2-week pay period. Plus federal holidays. Your tax dollars at work! :D
 
I just earned my 4th week of vacation time last year, so I get 4 per year. I also received 5 "one time" vacation days when I joined the government workforce. It used to be labeled "honeymoon" but it is no longer the case. I've used 2 of those 5 days so far, because I love to stretch my vacation time. :)

Every place I've worked you get XX days per year accrued evenly by the pay period.
 
5 weeks vacation - 5 personal days - 12 holidays - yearly. We can accrue the holidays since we are a 24/7/365 operation.
 
Me: 4 weeks:
Company policy 2 weeks first 5 years, 3 weeks after 5 years. 4 weeks after 10 years. 5 weeks after 30 years.
DW. 6 weeks:
Company policy. 3 weeks first 5 years, 4 weeks after 5 years, 5 weeks after 10 years.
 
I teach through special ed in a public school, so my "vacation" time is pretty standard: Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, 3 days at Thanksgiving, about 10 days around Christmas/New Year's (# depending on when the holidays fall), MLK Day, a week in February, a week in April. Then there is the long summer break starting in mid-June. I get paid for the holidays listed (11 a year) but not during any of the other listed vacation time as the school department won't pay-average. I also get 3 paid personal/business days during the year, but they are hard to use as you have to tie them to a business-related event that can't be scheduled after 4pm (things like legal meetings, closing on a house, etc). While it's nice to have vacation time, it stinks that we can't pay-average, and of course my vacation time is when every other school kid in the country is on vacation, more or less, so the best places to vacation are always expensive and crowded (yes, I'm looking at you, WDW!!).

I couldn't explain how DH's hours work even if I tried... :rolleyes1
 
I get 4 weeks of vacation, 2 weeks of personal, and I have 777 hours of sick leave. I will hit 20 years in December.

This is what I get as a teacher too, except I only have 18 hours of personal time. The personal time does not accrue. It is use it or lose it. The past 2 years I have used it for special one time trips (25th anniversary and DD's senior trip). My boss is very supportive of family events (Catholic school). I have gobs of sick time. It rolls over each year. I've only needed to use 3 sick days over the last 5 years. Our salary (small though it is) is spread out over 12 months, so I do get paid over the summer - thank goodness!

We don't differentiate between personal days and sick time so I think we are in the same boat. Thank goodness for being paid over the summer! Hang in there, teach - we are almost done! :sunny:
 
In 2016 I reached 10 years with my company so for 2017 I get 4 weeks vacation.

10 sick days, 5 personal days.

8 holidays: New Years, Good Friday, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and my "birthday," which can be taken any time of the year.

Nothing can be rolled over to the next year.
 
I get simultaneously as much as I want and none at all.

I'm self-employed, so I can take off the next six months if I want to. The downside is, I won't make any money for the next six months. Taking a vacation (or even a day off) involves doing extra work before and after so I don't lose out too much money for the time I missed.
 
I retired 2 years ago but when I worked I got 5 weeks vacation all credited on Jan 1st. I got 7 personal days, 12 sick days- also all credited on Jan 1st. We also had 12 holidays- New Years, Martin Luther, Washington, Lincoln, Good Friday, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Election Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas.
 
22 vacations day, 10 sick, week between christmas and new years, 10 fridays off in the summer, a couple days for spring break, and like 14 other holidays. Academia is a great work/life balance job.
 
10 floater holidays, which I can use on federal holidays or on days special to me. (I like this, it accommodates for religious differences.) I'm working today, Memorial Day, and used the holiday last week on vacation, for example.

Then I earn 3 hours every 2 weeks.
