How Much To Tip...?

We are having our basement finished, and the man who is doing our drywall, in conversation, asked my DH what we were doing for furniture. My DH went on to tell him that we found a sectional at Costco, of all places, but we are figuring out how to get it home. The man offered to pick it up with my DH in HIS truck on Tuesday when he's done sanding.

How much should we tip him for the use of his truck and his time?

Gas-wise, if he uses $3 in gas I'd be surprised. Costco is about a mile from our house. The thing is, it comes in three big boxes, and they will need to make two trips. I'd say in total, a half hour of his time.

$15? $20? More? Less? FWIW, the man is a co-worker of DH, not a stranger.

Not only have I seen those three big boxes but I have lugged them home myself. Personally I would offer him $50. Not only are you using his truck but you get his help lifting the stuff and bringing into the house. That to me is worth a lot.

I'd give him $20 and make sure he gets some beer or dinner after everything is done.

He's doing you a favor - but he is also working for you in another capacity.

If it were me, depending on how close the relationship is:

1-Offer to fill the truck up with gas and ask him to supper for a home cooked meal. (Or make a big box of baked goodies)

2-Offer him a $50 bill and be done.

After all, if you bought furniture from a furniture store, you'd pay a minimum of $30-50 delivery charge plus tip to the drivers.

My first reaction was $50 also.

I also agree with the 50.00
