Another bubget buster! My daughter left the hatchof my minivan open and then closed the garage door on it! There is a fairly deep scratch extending about 5 inches.:scared::scared: I think I'll need to get it repainted...don't want it to rust. My van is only 1.5 years old!

Does anybody have any idea what the cost might be to repair?

Sorry about the scratch....I did that to my minivan and have a pretty deep and long scratch...I am thinking about 5-6 inches as well. I got couple quotes to get it repainted and both places told me that if it doesn't bother me to just let it be and save the money since it doesn't affect the functionality or safety of the vehicle. Both places quote me $1500 - the deeper the scratch the more expensive it is.

If the car is a lease you will most likely have to get it fixed before you turn the car in because if they catch it when they inspect on return it may cost you alot more for the dealership to do it. If it's not a lease then you can always just contact the dealership(it doesn't have to be the exact one you bought it from just one that sells that model, make sure it's a dealership not just a used car lot) anyway, contact a dealership and ask them for a bottle of touch up paint in your cars color. The dealership should have the touch up paint that will match your car exactly. It may take a couple of coats and make sure the area is clean before you apply the touch up paint.

another thing to consider is the place where you took it, are they using traditional paint or have they moved onto the waterborne systems? Hubby's work just spent a lot of time and money switching to the waterborne systems. If I remember correctly, it is a big start up cost (for the dealership) but it's better for the environment, easier to blend and takes less time to dry. I think it might be cheaper also. He's already at work or I could ask him, in meetings most of the day so I can't call either.

My sister in law is leasing a car, has three kids and two dogs, she brought her car in and they repaired all the little scratches and dings over a weekend. They got the car on Friday, early afternoon and it was ready before Sunday for her to leave. I think the repairs were around $500. These were little scratches but I think the new system allows them to fix the smaller scratches (blend), without having to paint the whole panel. Also, keep in mind she did get a discount but it shouldn't have been anything more than 10%.
