How much time do you spend in the cabin?

We love our stateroom. We enjoy the ship, too. It is personal preference, but we are not on the cruise for the pool. We are not on the cruise to be on the go 18 hours a day. If there is something we want to do, we do it. If we want to chill on deck 4, we do it. If we want to watch FunnelVision, we do it. If not, we are usually hanging out in our room enjoying it. Our cruising style is to take it easy.

I hardly spend anytime in the room. The first 2 cruises, I only used the room to shower, sleep, change clothes. The last cruise I was on, which was only a 2 night to nowhere, I spent more time in my room. I took a 3 hour nap (which never happens when I am not on a ship) and had a couple room service meals. It was actually really nice.

I've always booked the cheapest ocean view so I would have more money to be out doing things. That has worked well for me. I am cruising again soon and have the ocean view booked, but am going to check on a port upgrade. If I can get it for only a few hundred dollars, I'll do it. Otherwise, I'm fine with the room I have booked.

What do you do with the dishes afterward? I've always only brought things I could hand carry like milk and donuts. I'd love be bring a whole plate of food if I knew where to put the plate afterward.
You must have plates in the room when order room service, so I don't know what the difference would be. At least I'm hoping that DCL room service is not brought on paper plates lol

I suppose then it depends on the ship. No trays on the Magic last month and I've read reports here from other ships but can't remember which off the top of my head. I'd say it's hit and miss.

For one or two dishes we left them in the stateroom and tipped the hostess extra because she always had them cleaned away at turn down.
The Magic does have trays, but not on display, you ask for them in Cabanas. We do it!

Room service comes on a tray with covers for the plates. I tidy up my tray when I am done with it and do whatever they tell me to do with it. I've been told to leave it in the room or to leave it in the hall. I haven't ever brought plates from the buffets/restaurants because I haven't known what to do with them. I never leave extra messes for people to clean up. I'll ask in the buffet what they want me to do with the dishes if I do take something back.

Personally having all types of room , the time spent in it is proportional to the Catergory. In verandah rooms, in Alaska and Panama we have spent most of the day there bar eating, and a quick walk. In inside rooms I can understand why cruisers do not want to stay in there. We like privacy, lack of crowds, room service to verandah, watching in room movies, watching the sea, sea life, views, other boats, the land etc.

They do say leave it in room, but many do not like the smell, it's hard to get rid of the old smell, if you do not have a verandah.

When we get room service we put the tray in the hallway and then call room service to let them know we are done. They have always thanked us for doing that. When we bring down plates from Cabanas or the window fast food, we stack them in the room and our room steward takes them out for us, or my DH and DD take them back up on deck if they are going up to take pictures, etc.

Favorite thing to do with a verandah, get a drink and some snacks and then put our feet up and enjoy the sea! On 7-day cruises it has become a tradition to skip one night's dinner and order room service and watch a movie.

From my experience their is no such thing as relaxing near a DCL pool : )
There is on Castaway Cay day. We are usually the first ones off the boat after docking and spend the entire morning and lunch on CC. After that we head back to the ship and enjoy the AquaDuck and the pool as it's very quiet up until about 4pm when people start coming back....

We did that on one of our cruises and my daughter got to ride the Aquaduck three times in a row!

YUP!! We're planning on doing it again in a few months.......though last time, the water at CC was a bit cold for swimming as we went during Christmas time. This time, we're doing a Sept/Labor Day cruise so the water will be warm...but the most relaxing time was back on the ship early. First time I did the Aquaduck and I loved it (I won't lie, probably more than my DD did..lol) It really did feel like a rollercoaster...and getting off the tube at the end was not easy!:o

You have to define worth vs time. Our first cruise we had a veranda and absolutely loved it but when we started pricing future cruises we could do 1 1/2 times more if we booked inside, so that is what we have done for the past 4, and liked the rooms too. We found it better to go more often than to have the veranda, even though it was great. We ate breakfast on the veranda brought down from the buffet and enjoyed watching the world go by before spending the day watching cartoons on the funnel vision. If we could get a veranda for not much more money we would do it. So all that to say we love to cruise with or without it!

We are on the transatlantic right now. We use our verandah a lot! It's beautiful on sea days to sit out and read. Right now I'm watching the ship be refueled at the Boston port.

Nonstop Mickey Mouse Cartoons on TV kept our DS in the room more than the clubs, then the bonus of room service and he thought he was in heaven.
We do use the veranda for relaxing time with a drink or just watching waves go by. But at the dismay of DS we spent more time out than in.
It is such a personal choice. I just need sunlight, DH need air, and DS would be happy with MM cartoons and room service in an inside cabin.
