Hi Everyone,
My family just got back from our first Disney trip last week. Before we left Disney World our kids were begging to go back. I have hinted to my DH about going Christmas 2007. He pretty much said no. He said he wants wait to go back for a few years let it change a little. I am very disappointed, but I am not giving up quite yet. Anyways back to my question I know there are people that go many times a year, but what is the norm? Do you visit yearly, every other year or every five years? I want to get everyones opinion on this. We had such a great time I really want to go back. It is a little expensive for our budget but I think I can make it work. Let me know what you guys think. Tell me what your family does. Thanks

We've decided to go once a year. Our boys are 3 years old. We took them in JAN/FEB 2006 and they LOVED it. They still ask to watch the videos at least once a week. We can afford a family vacation every year, so it's not a problem for us...just the joy on their faces while we're there is worth every single penny we spend.

I don't really get the "waiting for it to change" rationale...I mean, you eat in the same restaurants that you like at home and go to the same places you enjoy without them having to change, right?! I think it's more about the time you get to spend together enjoying the magic of WDW. But if he insists on wanting to wait until it's different - here's a thought---if you go at Christmas time it WILL be different because they have Christmas activities and decorations that time of year that you didn't get to see in OCT. :wizard:

Good luck - I hope you can convince him to go!

We used to go every few years, but now are making it a point to go every year. We are enjoying more of the "resort experience" as well as the parks themselves. There is so much to do that even going every year, you can't do it all - and we go for 11-14 days at a time!!!! We bought DVC in 2004 and now stay on-site for our visits making it even better. So, if it's in the budget, my advise is enjoy it every year and try to do something new each time!!!

Hello! Since me and my husband have been married (2 whopping *very beautiful* years), we've been twice: once after his first tour in Iraq and another time before his current deployment. Now that we can afford it, we planned to go at least once a year.

BUT right now, he's in Iraq. I want to travel with my daughters, and what better place to take 2 youngins than Disney World!?!! I am going 3 times this year (so long as it's affordable). We stay at Shades of Green which is like $100 a night, and will have annual passes. So basically, it's a special year for us.

Once hubby returns form Iraq, we'll go back to our new once-a-year schedule. :-) I wish I could live in that area!

Hugs,
Susan

(Our trips are for about 8 or 9 days, some people go more than us, some less).

Once in 2004.
Once in 2005.
Twice in 2006.
Twice every year from now on....we just joined DVC!!!

We just took our first trip to WDW 2 weeks ago and DH didn't think he would have such a blast, but he did! Now we are planning to go once a year during fall break (we get a week off in early Oct.) since DD is only 5 and should be gung-ho to go for many years! My DH was mainly worried that he would never get to go to the beach again--maybe your husband just wants a few days to do something different? Why not mention to him that you could split the vacation time to a few days at Disney and a few days at the beach or somewhere else? I didn't look to see where you were from, so I don't know if this is feasible if you have to fly down. We've decided next fall to take a couple of days at the end of our vacaton week and stay at one of the quiet beaches on the way up I-95 north of Orlando.

Before this trip, DH and I had been to Disneyland in 1999 (visiting family in CA). I had grown up going to Disneyland whenever we visited there in 1971, 1973, 1976, 1979, 1983, and 1986. Boy, that makes me feel old! :rotfl:

We decided after our first trip that we would go back every 5 years. It is a lot of time between but what is nice is you really don't remember everything as clearly and it gives you plenty of time to save.

Each year we go it is a entirely different trip. That is what is nice about Disney, there is something for every age. The first year we went the were kind of small for some rides. The next year they could do everything. This time the will be teens and we are going to let them do thing by themselves.

That is what this famiy does! :grouphug:

:tink:

Before we went in August, DH was saying that this would be the last Disney trip for a while. All 4 of us had gone in 2004, DD#1 and I went in 2005 (stayed with family who had just moved to that area), and all 4 of us went in August, 2006.

We had the best family trip ever in August, and I knew that there was no way I could wait a few years to go back. I waited until a month after we got home, and then I proposed that we plan a trip for August, 2007. It didn't actually take too much convincing on my part.....I think DH had a better time on the trip than he wants to admit. He can be dense about female moods sometimes (he lives with a wife and two DDs), but even he saw how happy we all were for those 6 days. I am hoping that it will be an annual event, but I have to take it one year at a time.

Give it some time, and then bring it up to him when you can talk without the kids around. He may surprise you.

We go every 2 years. There's usually a few new things each time we go and we don't ever get over the excitement of going as I think we would if we went more often. Our last visit was December '04 and we will be leaving a week from Friday. :yay:

We go 2x a year and have done that since 2000. Our kids are now 7 & 11. And in all those times we STILL haven't done everything! We like to try all the different resorts, the different restaurants, we go to the water parks, etc. We still haven't been on any of the tours or played mini golf. There are the water boats to rent, shows to see and so much more.

It will take us a long time before we are sick of our Disney vacations.

I hope that you can convince him to go back sooner if that is what you want! :)

We go once a year. Usually in the fall. The past 2 years we've gone in Sept. Last year we bought an AP and went the last week of Sept. Our APs expired this year on 9/24 so we went that week before 9/16-9/23. We get 2 trips out of our tix so that really helps with the cost.

We are DVC members also.

If you check Mousesavers.com you can often times get good discount codes. I also read on the Resorts Board (I think) that someone got AllStar last week for $37 a night through Travelocity.com.

As far as cost goes, if you purchase at least one AP, you can usually get good discounts for resorts with that and you can also purchase a card, Disney's Dining Experience for $60, it is good for 1 year and gets you 20% off at most restaurants.

My husband and I went in 2000, 2001 (our wedding), and 2002. By 2003, he wanted to go somewhere different. We did, and I was BORED! Then we had twins and haven't been anywhere since!

Anyway, while I would be perfectly content to go every year, he wants every other year...so we have a compromise: 2 years will be disney...one year something else, then 2 years Disney...the next something else. It will work out okay, because there are some different things we want to do with the kids, such as the mountains, Williamsburg VA, California (haha Disney is there too!) and London, but Disney will still be the majority of vacations.

We went for our honeymoon in 2000, then took our DDs in Nov of 2005. We had agreed to then go every 2 years. However, DH & kids (and me obviously) had such a great time that we decided to go again Nov 2006, especially since a lot of the other vacation we really want to do, the kids are too little for. Next year we're going to CA BUT I'm working on talking DH into a long weekend in the fall as well. Then we'll be back for our week trip in fall 2008. Hopefully we can do long trip every 2 years, short trip in those years in between.

WE plan on going yearly now that were done having kids. We did take DD two years in a row then got pregnant with DS and I was on bedrest. Just got back in September and hopefully planning on next fall. Want to go every year or two at the most. The kids and I love Disney but DH likes it OK. Not in love with it like mom is :teeth: .

We got back on 10-18 from Disney and on 10-20 I booked another trip for Jan. 28 2007. We did buy DVC and have the points to go, and have double income to do it. We want to go as much as possible while the kids are young.

We went this January and I am still trying to get DH to give in to go January 2007! But we agreed that we will go every year in a half to two years. Even though we all would love to go multiple times each year, I think this is reasonable and we have time to save so we can do the extras while we are there.

Now that we have kids, we will probably go once every three to four years. It may change once I go back to work but right now we can't afford to go often.

I've been going to Disney since I was five. We also begged my parents to take us every year. We went every other year and I thought that was great. Now my husband and I go every few years. One year somewhere he picks, one year a more affordable vacation, then somewhere I pick...Disney. If we had more money, we would probably go more often.

Our first trip was in 04 and we decided to at least go every other year. We did the beach in 05 and are now going to Disney again in a little over a month. We have been looking at the budget and decided that disney is not that much more $ than the beach so we will most likely start doing disney every year instead of the beach. We have a good time when we go to the ocean but a great time at disney so for a little more we would rather go to disney. I know that we stayed two wks in 04 and didn't see nearly everything so we don't feel obligated to wait for it to change, there is still so much to see. We also did Halloween in 04 and will do Christmas in 06 so they will be totally different experiences.
