It's pretty lackluster if you don't have kids to run around. But if you have time to kill it's not bad. From getting on the boat, checking everything out, then getting on the boat to leave...I'd put about 30-45min for it. Some people spend hours there though.
If you are a Tom Sawyer fan, then definitely go. It's a really nice place to sit and chill. There are good views of the park that you don't get anywhere else. The island has some cool things, like a fort, a barrel bridge, and caves.
If you are a kid at heart, and love the old school Walt stuff - go. The caves, the tunnel in the fort, the barrel bridge, the views of the attractions - we love all of it. We spend at least an hour out there.
My kids loved the island. They loved going through the caves, and there is a fort with guns to fire. We were there for 45 minutes and they did not want to leave, but we had to get to a reservation. We ended up going back again for another hour.
