There is going to be about 4-5 of us going to an all-day (12hrs) crop in a couple of months. None of us have ever been to one. I plan on emailing the store today to see exactly what items are available (cricut, punches, scissors, etc).

But how much stuff do YOU actually bring? I've heard of some people just bring their photos & cutter, then buy all of their supplies there LOL I've heard of people making "kits" to bring with them.

I would like to hear all of your do's and don'ts for packing up for an all day crop. I mean even if the store doesn't have a Cricut that we can use, I don't plan on bringing mine but I'm wondering just how much stuff I should bring. I don't have one of those rolling carts anymore (handle broke) but I do have a couple canvas bags that I can pack my stuff in.

I'm just wondering if I should plan out which pages I want to get done and make up some kits for each layout (paper, pictures, embellies, etc) And should I pre-cut any titles or piecings from my cricut? Can't believe how stressful this feels. LOL

I would do kits because that way you'll have everything to do that page layout with you and yes, pre-cut titles on your Cricut. I would put together about 8-10 kits for you to work on.

Personally, I would bring my own tools because I would feel more comfortable with my own things.

I do kits and bring a stack of a variety of cardstock colors (unless I need something to add in to a kit. I also bring my must have tools (crop-a-dile/button clipper/ect). I have the insturctions I use for kitting in the how to sticky thread on this board- it comes complete with pictures.

DON'T

**Be discouraged if you don't get as much done if you planned on.

**Plan to buy everything at the store unless you need supplies because that could be expensive.

**Have open containers at the table (bring drinks with screw on lids) Lesson learned the hard way.

** Get discouraged if you forgot to pack something. You can add it when you get home!

DO

** Plan ahead- organize your pictures with the paper and larger embellishments (sticker packs, swap items) you plan to use. I have all of my smaller embellishments (ribbon, brads, eyelets, flowers, buttons, fibers, etc.) in portable containers that I take with me. Always bring more than you think you will get done in case. I usually pack for about 16- 2 page spread, but will probably only finish 12 if they are organized and ready to go.

**Bring lots of adhesive, especially if you use the smaller tape runners

**Post pictures later for us to see

**Have fun and enjoy your first crop!! I love cropping with others, luckily I have several neighbors who love the hobby like me!

When you call the store ask how much space each person gets. See if your group is sitting across one table facing the same way or in a pod. At SDV we are in pods of 8 so we have collapsible shelves (found in the dish cabinet dept of target and walmart) that we stack in the middle of the table to help utilize the space.
Also when you ask if they have a cricut ask if you need to bring your own mat.

DO:
  • kit your pages.
  • pick a theme to work on, makes the supplies go further and you won't have to bring a lot of stuff.
  • talk to your tablemates, everyone should bring a paper trimmer and scissors for themselves but not everyone needs to bring a crop a dile.
  • bring a notebook and if you want post it notes. I don't precut my titles so if I don't bring a cricut I use my notepad to write down what needs to be cut and slide the scrapbook paper behind the notebook page and then write the title on the post it note page and stick it on the page that's almost done.
  • label your personal tools with at least your initials. Lots of people are going to have the same tools, this makes for easy identification of your things.
  • bring snackies for the table. And your favorite drinks. DO use and tightly sealed container. I watched a near miss at a CKC event when a water bottle tipped over and the ladies pictures were all spread out, thankfully the top was on all the way.

Don't
  • Stress!! have fun whether you get one page or 20 pages done
  • over pack, you'll spend all of your time organizing and no time scrapping.
  • shop in the store for everything. Way to expensive and time consuming when you need to buy all the supplies for every page.

Wow, a lot of great do's and don'ts!!!

Keep 'em coming!! I can't wait to go. We don't have any local scrapbook stores around us so this will be a treat!!! It's a bit over an hour away so it's not bad but we are all so excited to go.

I do go to a scrapbook store on Wednesdays and do a bit of scrapbooking for 2-3 hours (it's about an hour and a half from my house) but I'm up there for work for 4 hours with nothing to do (I drive school bus) and this is the time that my 2 students are in school. So I get to do what I want for those 4 hours. Anyhow, I do pack up a few page kits to bring with me on those days, but I've never packed for a full day of scrapping. And my mom, SIL and 2 cousins that will be going with me have never been EVER to any kind of crop (they've all just scrapped at home) So I think I will gather all of these great tips and pass them along to them.

And usually when I do make these kits for Wed mornings, I always precut everything before hand and put everything into a big ziploc bag. That way when I do get to the store all I need to do is assemble everything. But I think I'm going to do things a bit different for the big crop. I don't think I will precut anything before hand. I'll just put everything I need for each layout in my ziploc and off I go. Oh my....I just can't wait!!! LOL

Since the rest of your group hasn't been to a crop before have them start kitting now. It's going to take them some time to get used to the process.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. I'm going to put together all the great ideas from this thread and email it to the group. We're probably not going until the spring (maybe late March or April) so that should give everyone time to get their stuff together.

Keep the ideas coming!!!

IF they scrap in the mean time have them make a mental note of their go-to tools. That way they know what they will definitely use. don't forget journal pens. I always bring black, white and brown to every crop.
