I would really like to start doing some stamping. But I don't see myself making a lot of cards. I have a hard enough time keeping up with the scrapping! Anyway I have a friend who is doing CTMH. I really like the acrylic stamps. But it is so overwhelming to think you have to buy the blocks, the cleaner, pads and the stamps. Not to mention how many times will I actually use the stamps??? Any suggestions. Cheap but good ink pads? Any other ways to save. I love the SU and CTMH ink pads but again if I am not going to that much with it. It seems like a lot of money to drop.

I orginally started out stamping about 7 years ago and moved into scrapbooking a year later. I do have a good supply of ink pads, but I also use markers to ink the stamps. To clean up, I use unscented baby wipes. I generally buy my stamps & ink pads at Hobby Lobby when they have their 50% off sales - then they are really reasonable.

To be honest, I don't use many stamps to scrap with EXCEPT the letter stamps.

I don't do alot of stamping and I only have 4-5 stamp pads. I have stamps I buy from the $1 bins at the local craft stores, and I like to use my markers for the coloring, because I can also use the markers in my scrapbooks. I have several SU sets of stamps but only buy when they are offering 50% off or something similiar.

I don't do any stamping in my albums, I worry about not liking the stamp and then I cannot remove it. Not my thing, at least not right now.

I do love to make thank you cards and enjoy stampin those.

I do a fair amount of stamping in my albums - but rarely directly on the page. I like to have an out if I screw it up. ;) I put them in the corner of journaling blocks, behind vellum text, on embellished squares, on borders - basically anywhere except the actual page.

I bought a number of stamp pads, but actually much prefer to use brush markers to ink the stamps...that way I can use different colors on the same stamp. I also like to use embossing powders with my stamps. Sometimes I use the VersaMark pad, and sometimes I just use the regular stamp pad before adding the powder.

I've bought my stamps on sale, but so far I've only gotten ones I can use often - like Disney characters, various leaves & bugs, holiday ones...things like that.

I do a little stamping (but I seem to own plenty of stamps :confused3 ). Anyhow, when I have used them I have been very happy with the results. If you are concerned about messing up, stamp the paper BEFORE you adhere anything else. That way if you mess up you've just lost 1 piece of paper... not a whole layout. Or try stamping on a tag or another piece of paper that you can add to the page.

I probably have the cheapest stamps and pads around and I am perfectly happy with them. Many of my stamps are the cheap foam ones or the ones from the $1 section of Michael's. Most of my stamp pads are from the $1 spot at Target. Since my ink doesn't touch my photos, I'm not overly concerned about the "type" of ink I use. I wash them in the bathroom sink with handsoap (but I'm gonna get some baby wipes!). Since my stamps are cheapies, I'm not overly concerned about treating them properly.

Try buying a few inexpensive stamps and see if you like it before you invest in some really expensive stuff.................HTH.................P

I have purchased stamps but have been hesitant to use them because of getting ink everywhere.....putting it on a letter but getting it on the side, too...yikes!

What kind of markers do you use or Deb - u mentioned a 'brush marker'?
And that is a good tip about the baby wipes - but why unscented?

I really LOVE the look and did a NYC layout last night that I would LOVE to use my stamps on....but I am a chicken!
All advice welcomed.....I have 2 sets of MM foam and some other wood block ones...and a set from the Dollar Spot!

I just use a large tip marker - brush markers have an elongated tip that resemble a paintbrush (they work great by the way) - to ink up my stamps. This way, you can get several colors on a stamp and get more detail.

I'm sure you could use scented baby wipes as well...I just don't like a baby powder smell myself. LOL
