How much $$$ should I plan for a build your own lightsaber?

Any idea how much to budget for a build your own lightsaber? I really have no idea how much these cost and have promised one for my son for christmas! Any help would be appreciated!

About $20.00 for a single blade. about $23.00 for a double blade. Very cool experience and lots of choices but the CM there will help you with the building and choosing.

For the double blade only one side lights. And the double blade can convert to single blade as well...

WHen we went they did not have red blades. We came away with a double bladed purple for DD7 and single bladded green for DD13.

Remember Sarah, they are LONG, they are heavy, and they don't have a belt clip. So be sure you're prepared to hold it for your son when he gets tired of carrying it. DS lost his (set it down, then it was GONE, so it was lost then stolen, basically) b/c it was so big and heavy for him...he's used to the cheapie ones with the belt clips.

Of course your son is likely taller than my guy, since you are taller than me! So your mileage may vary; I just want to make sure you know the pitfalls of the BYO for littler kids.

I am not sure about the hours. It took us about 10-15 minutes... (Lots of choices) Have the CM help...

Do they fold down at all? My ds(6) would LOVE this, but I 'm worried about the logistics of getting it home on the plane...I don't know if it would be allowable as a carryon.

They come completly apart...

We removed the second blade as we had a dual sided lightsaber. It fit in the suitcase just fine... They are similar in size to a normal lightsaber. You have the flashlight portion and then the blade collapses but the first section of the blade sticks out...

We checked ours...

They do however come entirely apart...

I was disappointed in this experience. They have pictures of the light sabers of differnt characters on the wall. My son wanted one like Darth Mal. Well guess what you cannot get an exact copy as the parts do not fit. It also took the CM to get the red to fit. For some reason the red do not fit all models easily. My daughter also had issues in getting the one she wanted as again things didn't line up.


Now as said they are long but fold up. Son has a double and fully extended it is 6 feet from end to end.

Fortunately, my son doesn't know a whole lot of difference between all the star wars stuff. So that won't be an issue. Phew! (He's only seen the first movie in the set of the 3 old ones, so the original).
