Not knowing a thing about DVC we stayed at OKW because we needed a 2BR. We loved it. Took an official tour at BWV and didn't like the way it looked. (Although we've stayed there since and did enjoy it, but still like the appearance of OKW better.) Saw they were building BCV but liked the idea of OKW's seclusion so decided on OKW. Looked for good resale price and then bought.

Kind of hard to reply to the poll because we:

1--Stayed at 3 other DVC resorts before purchasing SSR
2--Watched the DVC video
3--Spent hours and hours on the disboards
4--Visited the DVC website
5--Bought site unseen
6--After buying, toured our home resort

We toured and knew it was the right decision problem was at the time it was not as we saw it financially feasable it really was but we didn't think so. So we waited till 01 and bought our first contract then.

We bought while on Disney magic in 2004. Was a big decision for us since neither DH or I have ever been to Disney and really wasn't interested in Disney at all. But we enjoyed the cruise so much and seeing how we had 3 little kids, we figured we'll make good use of DVC in the future. Gamble, I suppose. We did buy the minimum amount of points and figure we'll go every other year. But now it seems like we'll be going every year so we'll probably have to add on in the future. We bought SSR since that was the only one being sold and it wasn't completed yet so we've never seen the resort. We still haven't been to WDW since we used this year's points for Disney cruise and Vero Beach. There's always next year!

While planning our first trip back to the world in six years, I found my way to Mousesavers and heard about renting points from DVC owners. From there, I found my way to these illustrious boards and lurked for a month or two. I ordered the video and watched it, can't say it was a real determining factor though! It was the Disboards that really sold me! Then I convinced DH to purchase DVC instead of renting. We picked OKW on the power of the pictures posted at Allearsnet.com and made our first trip home last Oct 2004. We couldn't be happier

I remember speaking to someone over 10 years ago at one of the parks about DVC. I could not get past the term "timeshare". I've read and heard about DVC over the new few years. Fast forward to Oct 2004. Family cruise on the Magic. 13 of us, finally all in the same place at the same time having the time of our lives. My neice and nephew are the closest I'll ever have to kids of my own. I knew I wanted to be able to do more things like that in the coming years. Made an appointment while on the Magic to find out all the important details ($$$$). Bought 200 pts at SSR sight unseen. I did stop and took a tour of SSR on the way home. Knew I made the right decision after taking the tour. First trip home is in October (F&W Fest!) which will also be my nephew's trip to WDW. Can't wait.

I really lucked into the DVC. I was planning a family trip for T'giving 1999 and was looking through all the guide books when I came upon the write up for OKW. I asked my Travel Agent to book us there but she came back and told me that because OKW was part of Disney timeshare it wasn't available just yet. I don't know why. Anyways I really was intrigued by OKW so I did a little research and call DVC and bought in. I figured for what it was going to cost me for rooms for ten adults we go get a few more trips in.
Little did I know about the add-on bug. It has bitten me several times and now my sight unseen purchase has grown to over 1400 points
So because my TA didn't book me I luckily became a DVC member.

I always laugh when people ask me this. We received some "artist's rendering" pictures after being pains in the you-know-what calling Disney in mid 1991. The CMS kept telling us that there was nothing to send us, in fact, how the heck did we know about it? We received the papers in the mail and after a quick call to our guide to ask a few questions, our names were on the dotted line and the papers in the mail. The first time I walked into our 2 bedroom villa I cried. No it wasn't the castle, where I've wanted to live since I was child, but for us it's the next best thing.

I stayed at the Boardwalk Inn, toured the BWV and then we became members. I wish we joined years before. All those trips, and all that money out the window. I must have had 10 trips where I walked past the DVC stands at the resort I was staying at thinking, 'Yeah, whatever.' I think it was more about not wanting to waste my time during my vacation. The idea of having them send me info, or researching it on my own was foreign. What an idiot.

We really didn't do any research. Friends of ours had purchased and were staying at the BWV, we went to their room to meet up before going to Teppanyaki for dinner. As soon as we saw their 1 bdr. we fell in love. The next day DH brought me to the sign the papers. We vacationed at WDW every year and always stayed onsite so DVC was an obvious choice for us.

We have a neighbor who bought in before us. In telling us about how easy it was and seeing how many trips he was going on, we were already convinced we were going to buy. We met with his guide (now our guide) when we went down a couple of months later. We already knew we were going to buy before we even met with the guide.

We have added on several times since then. Our neighbor took his vacation habits a bit further and purchased a vacation home down in FL. We know not to visit him too often down there are it could be trouble for us.

Between when we were kids and now adults we have been going to Disney since it was only the MK. We have watched WDW grow from 1 park and 4 resorts to what it is today. We knew about DVC as soon as it was conceived. We did the whole thing from visiting the resort to watching the video to talking to guides. We felt comfortable with buying a timeshare through Disney. It seemed more secure then some of the other timeshare presentations we had gone to and we always went to Disney. We liked the DVC resort very much now called OKW but we were used to staying in MK and Epcot resorts and we did not want to give that up. We were only 2 people so a deluxe hotel room at an Epcot or MK resort was just what we wanted. Then a few years later we got custody of DW'S niece--who is now our DD, we again talked about DCV but decided we still had plenty of room at the Epcot and MK resorts. The Poly and Contemporary have large daybeds and large rooms. So we passed on DVC again and continued to stay at the MK & Epcot resorts that were growing in numbers. Then the news leaked out about a DVC resort that would be an Epcot resort so again we got interested. We still continued to stay at the Epcot and MK resorts but were keeping an eye on BWI/BWV's construction. We wanted to wait until we could see the resort opened and running before we bought. That's what we did. Have never regretted it. As our family grows so do our choices of villa sizes and resort choices. Perfect set up.

Watched a DVC VCR tape, read up on DVC at the All Ears & Mouseplanet sites (sorry did not find the DIS till after the purchase) and drove over to VWL and asked the CM in the lobby if we could go look around. They let us in then we drove over to the DVC offices at BWV and purchased. Sales fellow (Guide to some) did not have to really do anything as we were like give us the papers and where do we sign.

We purchased DVC sight unseen in 1993, but not without research. Our first trip was on a shoe-string budget which we supplemented by having breakfast at timeshare presentations -- getting park passes for sitting through the presentations, etc. After touring the many other non-disney timeshares in the WDW area and then experiencing Disney service and attention to detail on site and in the parks we knew if it was Disney it was for us. We'd seen the DVC storefront in MK so once we returned home we called they sent us the paperwork for what would be our first OKW contract purchase.
