Not counting anything edible.... just "Things"... how big is your family?

Just trying to get a rough idea of how much money to save to bring....

Last year, my DH, DS(3), DD(18 mos) and I went with our Dniece (our babysitter) and some friends. We don't buy souvenirs for people who aren't with us - because I think it's cheesy to bring something home that says where we've been and they haven't - unless there is something that I just knew would be perfect for someone. We sent a bunch of postcards to people from WDW and bought a bunch of stuff for our kids that they wouldn't be able to get anywhere else, like miniature ride vehicles. We also bought the all-you-can-stuff Mr. Potato Head items and My Little Pony items for $18 each, and we actually brought back a box for our friends' daughter's birthday. In total, we probably spent only about $400 for souvenirs, although we would have loved to spend more.

In previous trips (before children), my husband and I bought art prints, jackets, clothing and bigger items, but we only spent $500-600 per trip then.

We spent too much last time! Everyone usually gets a tshirt and one or two more things such as princess dolls, toy guns from frontierland, pins and things of that nature. This past time we were surprised with some really cold weather one night, so everyone park wide was rushing to purchase jackets and sweatshirts. We ended up spending like $200 on sweatshirts. :confused3 I know that sounds crazy but at Disney prices there was no way around it. I know that my and DH sweatshirts were almost $50 each and each of the kids were like $30. This next trip we will be prepared in all weather! LOL

I would say $400-$500 would be safe. That's what we usually bring.

Oh and we are a family of 5 :)

I shopped on line and got some great deals on shirts before we left and then told my 4 yr old niece that she could buy something with the money she saved (about $20). I bought my self an add a link bracelet and a few charms (which I found on sale). Bought my cat a cute food dish, we each bought a X-mas ornament (a must for every vacation). I felt most of the stuff you can buy on-line at home & much cheaper. We spent under $100 and didn't feel like we missed out on anything

I am 14 but I would say on me alone mom spends about $100+ on things.

I am spoiled.. princess:

We're a family of 4.

Each trip, we spend about $500.00-$600.00 on things...scrapbooks, scrapbooking supplies, kitchen items, home decor, etc. We went 3 times in 2007.

I am planning on at least $100 per person. There is 4 of us, so I am expecting to at least spend $400-$500 during our trip.

We spent less than $10 on souveniers on our last trip (3 days in the park for 4 people). We bought a Mickey Mouse cookie cutter and 2 Mickey Mouse straws (50 cents each at the hotel food court). The cookie cutter made some awesome looking sugar cookies when we got home. And the kids love their straws (they wash them out so they can reuse them). We did get a few souveniers on our first trip or two to WDW but the kids learned that the novelty wore off rather quickly. They'd rather save the money so we can go on more trips in the future. And no, I'm not depriving my kids because we don't buy a lot of souveniers. They are very spoiled and loved in other ways, like annual trips to WDW!

My initial impression was oh we didn't spend much, but then I started really thinking about it and thought I better get my receipt LOL There are 6 of us, and we spent $170, so thats not too bad. The kids mostly just got little stuff like keychains, antennae toppers, and a hat, but it adds up quick!

We aren't big souvenier people. I think we probably spend about $100/trip. There are the autograph books, and then a couple toys for the kids. We don't buy clothing. Its ridiculously expensive. You can buy clothes with Disney stuff on it much cheaper at home.

If you check out Disney store before your trip yo ucan find good deals sometimes. I bought stuff for my DD and brought it out at Disney. We did buy stuff there too. She picked out a few stuff toys. Not too big and weren't too bad in price. We too all bought sweatshirts, I actually bought two. The one is really big though becuase it was the only one I liked and that was the only size. Now I look like I am swimming in a sweatshirt. I wish I would've looked further. LOL! We got DD a ears hat and had her name put on it, and it is going back down with us this time. We didn't do autogrpah books. But thinking of it this time. How much are they? does anyone know?
We also got DD a t-shirt becuase she spilled all over her shirt and that was the day that Dad brought her to meet me in the parks and didn't check the bag for extra clothes.:laundy:
I also bought a watch, becuase mine had died right before the trip. And DD got a nemo purse and few other small things.
I think this trip we MIGHT buy an autograph book. I am going to get another sweatshirt. (one that fits better) And most likely a t-shirt for DD. I'm sure we'll find other stuff too, but I am goinhg to try to saty away from the stuff toys. They just sit around all the time. I may even bring down the ones from last year because she hasn't even looked at them in awhile, but then seeing them there may keep her satisfied from getting anymore.

we usually plan 150.00 a person if we dont spend that much great. I prefer to over budget rather than under budget.

I love this topic. I am all about budgeting for EVERYTHING. I don't want any money surprises while at WDW, and this is a big potential for "Surprise, you are broke! " LOL
