How much of a saving with AAA?

I am not an AAA member, I looked up on their website and saw the price to join was somewhere around $78 a year. So if I join and I book a room for a Resort in the park for mid-August for four nights, would I definitely save enough to pay for the membership plus more?

It's hard to tell. It might be more beneficial to purchase an annual pass.

I have a reservation for 7/1-7/5 with aaa discount. It's $191.20/night as opposed to $239/night on the Universal website. That is for the Standard room at the Royal Pacific Resort. I ALWAYS book through aaa online-on my own (I never use a travel agent), and I find that most of their discounts are more than worth the membership fee.
You can check out their website aaa.com to find prices for hotels and other stuff, but you need to be a member to actually book it.

I have used the Entertainment rate (no longer worth it) the AP rate and AAA rate for my trips to Universal. It's all about the math and which is best at the time factoring in the investment made. For now, the AAA rate rules. Sometimes it's worth buying the AP (at least for 1 person) to get the best rate. Also factor in discounts on merchandise and places to eat.

To give you a point of reference, I got the basic AAA membership for around $20 off the going rate with a special and a standard room at the PBH I got for $239. It is important to note that there has also been a special rate available on the web without the AAA membership for the same price, depending on the month. You really need to call to see what the rates are, the web doesn't always display the AAA/AP rates and before you buy the membership/pass, call and see.

It's like playing the stock market sometimes!

i agree...you have to do the math. one night macraven & I were back and forth trying to see if i had the best rate (what a riot that was! ) anyway, we were comparing my AAA rate of 191./nite at RPR (standard rooms...we ain't fancy.....:rolleyes1 ) vs: mastercard deal, supersaver rate, AP rate (which is sold out for our dates) and the stay 4 nights get 1 free. Believe it or not, we figured out the price came out to about the same....just dollars difference. I kept the AAA rate because of the price AND it's a qualifying rate w/ Loews :thumbsup2

You just have to work the numbers to see which is best for you.....

Just to give you an idea, my rate for next week at the Hard Rock using annual pass is $149/night. The AAA rate was $239 and the supersaver was just a little bit more. So it varies depending on the occupancy rates.

that is high for AAA.
my membership is out of chicago area and i thought those rates are high.
i pay $54 a year for membership.

where are you at to make it $78 a year?

if you call AAA and sign up with them direct, it will cost more as you have to pay an enrollement fee.

go and sign up on line as there is a special going on now.
it's $54 for membership, but of course, the amount varies based on your locale and the enrollment charge is waived if you sign up on line now.

when i first checked out getting AAA, i called the chicago office to sign up.
the agent was very kind and told me i could save a lot of money by signing up on line. so i did.

you get great savings with AAA besides hotel discounts all over the country.
shopping on line you save 10% for many stores.

also check the website in case the super saver deal comes up for your dates.

also, apply on line for loewsfirst
if you book a garden view, you can be eligible for a pool view as an upgrade free, if one is available.

you also get perks of free paper daily, welcome gift, later check out and use of the gym in the hotel

Well I checked all the rates for my dates and AAA came out the best for me. I just signed up for AAA though mypoints email I got on 4/16. I paid 49.95 which was 10.00 off, got second member and 3 extra months membership free. Oh yeah and I will also recieve 1000 pts, woohoo!

:cheer2: good job! what you paid for AAA will definately be made up in hotel savings.....oh, and flash that AAA card at restaurants too...discounts for eating and shopping w/ AAA in those places!

armshowers, you got a sweet deal with AAA

it also includes free service when you lock your keys inside your car and they send someone out to open the door for you.....:rolleyes1

and if you run out of gas.....they send someone out with a couple gallons of gas so you can get to a station....:rolleyes1

and flat tires............they change them for you........:rolleyes1

speaking from experience here, AAA is good for more than just hotel discounts

Is there a link somewhere for this? I've searched mypoints, but can't find it anywhere. I just wondered if there is a link on the website that I'm missing, or if it was by email only.

Thanks!
Becky

Cannot agree more, my Dad bought me a membership in Highschool and have had it ever since. I have been towed a few times over the years, I can fix some things on my vehicles, but I'm no Mr. Goodwrench, so having that AAA when they have to tow you is a Godsend! I'll keep my AAA memberdhip forever. I pay $50 something a year, but that's the deluxe version (up to 100 miles of towing, or something like that, plus some other extras I can't think of right now) definately worth it in my opinion :thumbsup2

There is no link on the mypoints website for AAA. I recieved a bonus email and joined through their link to AAA. If you belong to Mypoints you should probably receive AAA emails, I would go back and update my profile to receive all their offers.

WOW, what a rate, good for you! :cool1:
